There is always more than one way to solve a math problem! As a former math teacher with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Stanford and a Master's degree in Teaching from American, I know that there are infinite ways to approach math problems. I also know that exploring many methods is the best way to build conceptual understanding of math.

In many math classrooms today, teachers show their students one way to solve a problem, and then the students simply mimic a series of steps. This approach does not promote conceptual understanding! Students need to be able to think critically and creatively when they face a new problem. They need to be challenged with rich problems, while being provided with the tools to tackle those problems with creativity and confidence.

With several years of experience teaching math and tutoring, I know how to help students build both their conceptual understanding of mathematics and their confidence in problem solving. Most of my experience both tutoring and teaching in the classroom was with high school or middle school subjects; however, I can also tutor in more advanced subjects like Calculus, Linear Algebra, etc., as I studied math in college. Whatever the course, I will not just teach you more than one way; I will push you to discover many of your own!

Absolutely the best.

Beth has been working with our daughter for several months now. We originally asked her to help her with Trig/Pre-Calculus. And now that our daughter brought home her first A+ on her Trig/PC progress report--attention has shifted to preparing for the upcoming SATs. Beth is able to coach across a wide variety of subjects areas, building our daughter's confidence in her own skills and providing just the right level of help and support. We are so lucky to have her working with our daughter this year. _______ After working with Beth for several months, our daughter just got her first SAT scores: she got a 720 on the critical reading-- a section that was always very difficult for her; and she was in the mid-600s in the other two sections. Beth has definitely helped her be more strategic and successful in this standardized testing environment. And we were all very pleased with her initial scores. -------------- Beth has been working with our daughter on preparing for her subject SATs. After her last prep session, our daughter was feeling "calm and confident" as a result of her work with Beth.

Calculus - Wonderful Tutor!

Elizabeth helps me by showing new strategies and perspectives in which I can look at a problem. She also helps me by giving a visual and breaking down the problem into little segments to focus on. This method gives me a hook that helps to recognize the same problem later. She has a nice personality and she's patient. It is a lot easier for me to ask her little clarifying questions without having the fear of being judged for not knowing what to. I am really happy we found her. Thanks.

Beth is a wonderful tutor.

She tutored me in Algebra II. Because of her, I did better than I expected. She explains clearly and makes sure you understand the concept before moving on to another.

Very thoughtful and helpful!

Beth was able to explain math problems in an intuitive, easy-to-follow fashion even when it was her first time seeing the questions. (I brought a list of tough questions and she helped me through them.) When I told her in advance what I wanted to address, she even prepared a helpful handout to go over with me. Incredibly helpful!

Great tutor!

Beth has met with my 8th grade student three times for Geometry tutoring. Each time, she is very professional as well as supportive of my child's efforts. Best of all, my child likes her and feels comfortable working with her. My child has shown improvement in Geometry already. Thank you!

Great Tutor!

Beth helped me with GRE prep. She is kind and makes you feel comfortable around her. She was always on time for our sessions and each meeting was very helpful. Based off of what I needed help with, she made a plan of what we should review and she answered every question I had very well.
