Hank is a science educator who has worked with middle- and high school students and taught at the college level as an adjunct instructor. He holds a B.S. and a professional degree from Arizona State University and an M.S. in science education from Montana State University. Hank has also worked as a naturalist at several preserves and has written extensively about science.

Hank believes that the best way to encourage student mastery of science is to give students an opportunity to see and appreciate its practical value. He incorporates activities into his teaching, as well as more traditional methods, and strives to collaborate as much as possible with parents, teachers, and others to make sure that the student's academic progress is advanced as much as possible.

Hank believes that encouraging curiosity and critical thinking are essential to developing scientific literacy. He uses activities and demonstrations to teach concepts when possible. As a tutor who also helps students with math, Hank focuses on building both confidence and strong mathematical reasoning skills. He also emphasizes the importance of reading.

"I am very good at helping students of varied abilities," Hank says. "I love it when a student reaches those moments when it all comes together. In fact, that was me when I was in high school and even early in college! What helped me was some methods of learning and studying that I was taught; I hope to pass those on to my clients."

"I've worked with hundreds of students," Hank says. "Everyone can learn, and do well in, science and math."

Hank has worked with students in the sciences, including AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Earth system science, AP Environmental Science, and AP Physics 1 and 2, and in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, AP World History, AP US History, AP Human Geography, economics, AP Government, and test preparation (ACT and SAT).

Hank specializes in helping student-athletes and student-artists or musicians.

Hank is fantastic!

Hank has gone out of his way to help our daughter get ready for the AP Bio test. I have personally listened to him teach her at different times and love his teaching style AND he has a fantastic personality and sense of humor! He has a very special way of explaining difficult topics in lay terms which resonate and make sense. No matter what the test score ends up being we are all thankful for his commitment to our daughter and his warm and kind demeanor. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend Hank for any tutoring assistant you need - he is wonderful! Thank you Hank for everything!

One lesson resonated with my son

My son was very complimentary of Hank. Coming from a 16 year old, that means a lot! Hank's ability to teach my child how to study and look at material from a different angle is wonderful.

AMAZIUNG TUTOR!!!!! - Patient and so easy to understand! - Math / Sciences/ AP Histories/ SAT/ ACT and more!

This review is way overdue. The first time Hank helped my daughter, he hadn't even had a session with her yet. Her physics teacher decided to throw in a little Geology, for who knows what reason, and the textbook was very confusing and there was no lecture material from the teacher. Hank didn't have the time we needed (which we requested last minute in a panic for a test the next day!), but he sent two PDFs and a short video covering everything she needed to know in a quick and easy-to-understand format. She went from not understanding the material to getting a 95% on the test. Hank has since helped her with Geometry, Physics, and Chemistry. At the end of last year when finals were due and time was short, one session with Hank was all she needed to cover loose-end questions in multiple subjects. She says he is the reason she was able to raise her high Bs to As. When she first started her Chemistry class she was so lost. After one session with Hank, she was dancing around the room singing "I get it!" My daughter has dyscalculia (the math equivalent of dyslexia), ADD, a processing disorder, and academic anxiety. She has made tutors yell, turn red, leave the room, and tear up trying to teach her. She was so traumatized by tutoring that one summer she hyperventilated for three weeks straight going to Mathnasium before she realized no one was going to shout at her. Hank has always made her feel comfortable, never stupid, and conveys the material in a manner that she can understand and remember. Don't hesitate to try Hank for your struggling student, you will both be so happy you did!

Can't wait to get started!

We just had our first meeting with Hank: he is going to help our son prepare for the Military ASVAB test over the next 3 months. We talked all weekend about how excited and optimistic we feel! Hank took time to really get to know our son and start to figure out what will click with him. We have every confidence this was an excellent decision!!

Professional teacher adept at addressing learning gaps

Hank is helping my son catch up with his High School Honors Biology. In just the first few classes, my son has caught up and is confident about the subject and has started liking it. Highly recommend
