Hello! My name is David and helping students succeed in school is my passion.

I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring English to middle school, high school, and college students. My career began in 2011 as a volunteer tutor for Reading Partners, a non-profit organization that provided tutoring for students struggling with reading comprehension. I later applied as a writing tutor for CSU East Bay's Student Center for Academic Achievement (SCAA) and helped college students from many social and ethnic backgrounds polish their essays. After graduating in 2012 with a B.A. in English, I continued tutoring around the San Francisco Bay Area while working as a freelance writer and editor. I earned my teaching credential in 2015 from Humboldt State University and conducted English lessons for middle school and high school students. I would be thrilled to use my experience to help you or your child improve in critical reading and writing skills.

I teach students how to be comfortable with the writing process, how to carefully read and analyze a text, and how to think critically about important issues. These are not skills reserved for the 1%. Everyone can read well and write well if they have proper tutoring. I do my best to provide patient, punctual, and rigorous English tutoring for all of my students.

I currently offer one-on-one, online English tutoring for children in grades 5-12. If you are a college student who is struggling with an essay, then I can provide you with editing and proofreading services. I can also provide coaching for college application essays. Several of my stories have been published online and in print. I also have experience as a freelance fiction editor who has helped authors with developmental editing and proofreading.

I earned my English teaching credential from Humboldt State University and have taught middle school and high school English for three years. During my teaching career I have been trained in AVID instruction, which is a teaching philosophy that prepares students for college and academic success. In addition to my secondary teaching experience, I collaborated with a college professor for two semesters in English support classes at a title I charter school.

For example, my Bachelor's degree in English from Cal State East Bay in Hayward required rigorous courses in modern English grammar and I attended Humboldt State for my English teaching credential. Highly supportive and patient tutor

David is tutoring my 7th grader son. The best thing I like about David is how he open mindedly heard my requirements for tutoring my son and supportively agreed and understood with patience. I am thankful and feel blessed to have found David to tutor and enrich my son's English knowledge which would be of help not even in school but in long term too. He has his own content to explain, discusses and helps with HW or any project and also helps with communication. We have had 5 lessons with David and would be continuing more.
