I have taught all grade levels, but have taught K-6 specifically in the LAUSD school system. I have also taught a gifted program in many of my schools. I have worked with students with learning disabilities, dyslexia, severe emotional problems and gifted student. I have also homeschooled a student from 4th grade through 12th grade. Along with tutoring, I am currently running an intervention program at an elementary school.

I am dedicated to fostering a desire to learn in each of my students. I believe each child has a special talent that makes him or her unique from everyone else. These special talents make us who we are and can help us learn and grow as individuals. I believe in creativity when teaching. Each student is unique in his or her learning styles and needs individualized lessons to help them access the curriculum. I also believe learning can be fun and incorporate play, games, and challenges in my teaching.

I begin by assessing each students' abilities. At the same time, I begin to increase the skill levels so that mastery comes smoothly and automatically. Learning can be challenging and difficult at times, but so can learning to ride a bike or how to swim. With encouragement, patience and practice all students can achieve their goals and learn to be independent learners.

I am also able to give your child assessment tests to determine their strengths and weaknesses in the areas of decoding, reading comprehension, reading fluency, writing skills, math, and spelling. I have several assessment tools to help determine if your child has a disability in auditory or visual processing.

I know the Lindamood Bell method for reading as well as Reading Naturally. strengthen the sensory-cognitive functions needed for reading and comprehensi

I have homeschooled a student from 4th grade through 12th grade graduation. I tutored him 4 days a week for 2-3 hours each day in all subject areas. He had some learning difficulties which his private school wasn't able to help him with so I was hired by his parent to teach him at home. Since I have a Learning Disabilities certificate and a Resource Specialist certificate, I was able to meet his needs with an individualize learning plan. I am a certificated teacher with a Master's in Education and am qualified to teach all academic areas including reading, math, writing, social studies, and science. I worked with his private school to make sure all academic areas were covered and taught. He was able to graduate and was accepted into a college in New York at the end of our time together.
Phonics,

Phonics

I have taught phonics for the past 35 years. In the last 2 years I taught at a Primary Center with students from grade K-3. There has been a great emphasis on teaching phonics in the past 15-20 years. Numerous programs have been adopted by schools requiring teachers to spend large quantities of time teaching phonics. I have been required to teach students phonemic segmentation, nonsense word decoding, blending, vowel and consonant digraphs, etc. All of this have given me ample practice teaching student phonics.
Reading,

Reading

Teaching all children to read and enjoy reading has always been a passion of mine. Students who struggle in reading need the skills that will lay the foundation for success. I have even created a website that provides reading skills that specialize in making reading not just fun, but helps developp[l; reading skills and mastery. I provide not only instruction, but assessments to help determine why your child may be having difficulty mastering the basic reading and comprehension skills. Having a Masters in Education, a Learning Disabilities Certificate and a Resource Specialist Certificate helps me provide your child with the very best instruction.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

Study skills are the foundation for learning. Most students cannot successfully get high scores on quizzes, tests, and assignment unless they have good study skills. I have been able to help many students succeed in learning excellent study skills. To start, organization is very important. Timing is also important. Making sure you have given yourself enough time to study or finish a project so you are not scrambling at the last minute. Next, is the variety of ways of learning. I have lots for fun and unique ways to help you learn faster and more efficiently. Since I have worked with many student with special needs, I have developed several approaches to learning. And more important is the ability to "learn how to learn". What is your learning style? What are your strengths? Are you a visual, auditory or "hands on learner"? Do you know how to study based on these strength? I am able to help you with these questions and get you on your way to success! I can help you study in the areas of reading, math, getting ready for tests, etc.

Pre-algebra can be fun and exciting. Hard to believe? Well, most people have had bad experiences with math, so they hate math or think it is too hard. My challenge to you is to see math like a puzzle. Challenging, but fun to figure out. My goal is to help students be successful, achieve their goals and work towards making their dreams come true!
