Hi, my name is Tracy. I was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan and in my late 20s I came to America with very little English. As a result, the only job I could find was in the Chinese restaurant business. After some years, I was frustrated with my inability to communicate with customers, so I enrolled in an ESL class and studied very hard. After some years, I was frustrated with my inability to communicate with customers, so I enrolled in an ESL class and studied very hard. Ten years later, I have not only an AA degree in Liberal Studies from Palomar College, but also two BA degrees in Economics and Chinese Studies with a GPA of 3.6 from the University of California, San Diego. I finished with honors, which allowed me to be a member of the exclusive Golden Key International Honor Society.

How did I do it? Some people say that I was smart, but I say I was smart in terms of how to help myself to master every subject along the way towards my degrees. In doing so, I attained very good study skills. I led many study groups at Palomar College and UCSD and helped my classmates in their test preparations. Many of my classmates expressed to me that I explained the material in a better and easier way than the professors. From this type of feedback, I realized that I have a talent for teaching and that I really enjoy helping others to learn something--no matter how simple or hard it is. I believe that if I can do it, you can do it too!

I have helped many students to attain their high school diploma while tutoring at the San Diego Community College District, Continuing Education. While there, I worked with students aged 16-74 with many different levels of learning. Some had ADHD, dyslexia, substance abuse problems, etc. This was challenging, but extremely rewarding. Nothing pleases me more than the moment when a student has a light bulb go off in his or her head and says, "I understand"! I love to see students' confidence grow!

Although I have worked primarily with adults, I love working

I have a BA degree in Economics from UCSD with a GPA of 3.7. I tutored my classmates after each class. My classmates often told me that they wished I was the professor or the TA. I even had a TA ask me to explain the test answers to the class because I got the highest score and the classmates understood my explanation. I have tutored Economics for 6 years.

As a result, the only job I could find was in the Chinese restaurant business. After some years, I was frustrated with my inability to communicate with customers, so I enrolled in an ESL class and studied very hard. Because I did so well in my ESL classes, teachers often asked me to help other ESL classmates. For example, after the tests, teachers would ask me to explain to the class the reasons that I chose the correct answers. From this, many ESL classmates saw me for help after the classes. By helping my ESL classmates, I realized that not only do I like to help people to learn English, but also I am good at explaining English grammar to international students. Later, with encouragement from my ESL teachers, I took community college level reading, writing, spelling, and grammar classes, and with much persistence, gradually improved my English. Ten years later, I have not only an AA degree in Liberal Studies from Palomar College, but also two BA degrees in Economics and Chinese Studies with a GPA of 3.6 from the University of California, San Diego. I have an AA degree in Liberal Studies from Palomar College, but also two BA degrees in Economics and Chinese Studies. For 2 years I have tutored 12 students with different types of learning difficulties, from age 5 to 12. Subjects include math, reading, English, Chinese, and study skills. What I have learned from my students is that some children have very short attention spans, and they can sometimes become bored easily. As a tutor, I work to engage the students and to help them learn to focus on the task at hand. At times, I must go with the flow, making adjustments as students' energy and focus changes. With love, respect , patience, and the ability to improvise, we can achieve not only the academic goals but also life skills!

Study Skills

One of the biggest reasons that I was able to graduate from UCSD with a GPA of 3.5 at the age of 46 years old is that I developed outstanding study skills. English is not my first language, so the challenge was not easy. I took a class, College Success Skills, at Palomar College before I attended UCSD. This class helped me to learn many study skills and to devise a plan for achieving success in college. For example, before enrolling in a class I would interview the instructor to gain a clear understanding of the requirements needed for success. I previewed the course material before taking the class. During the class, I tape recorded the class lecture so I could listen to it again and again. After the class, I used the tape to improve my notes. I made 3x5 and 5x7 flashcards. I kept them handy so I could read them whenever I wanted. Whenever I was driving my car, I listened to the class tapes. I focused on and understood the material rather than just memorizing. In this way, I trained my brain to make connections and became a critical thinker through this type of active learning. I can help others to learn the study skills I developed and used myself.

Tracy has changed how my son feels about math

Another 100% from my son's most recent math test! Tracy has identified and strengthened my son's traits of a successful student like a good memory, logical thinking, and the ability to visualize/visualization. He underestimated himself in the past, or he was just not interested in math for some reason, and now he has confidence in math and seeks out explanations and solutions. Tracy is patient and kind and thoughtful, and is full of encouragement and kind words! We adore her personality and skill and look forward to more successful grades in the future. Thank you Tracy!

I am looking forward to helping him reach his goals in life. Thank you again for the positive feedback and opportunity! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Love, Tracy

Hi Daniel, Thank you for the 5 star rating and the encouraging and positive review! I really enjoy working with your 5 year old daughter because she is a smart, strong, and happy girl! I have never met a girl her age that likes to hang on the rings for so many times and flips herself to hang her feet on the horizontal bar! I think she wants to be an American Ninja warrior! She learns fast and always has a smile on her face. We had a lot of fun working together! I am looking forward to continue working with you and your daughter. Love, Tracy

Chinese tutoring for 9th grade

Tracy has been tutoring my son in Chinese to help him through a very challenging level 2 class at his high school. As a native speaker, she is obviously well-qualified, but also is very patient and kind with him. Her suggestions for study skills have been particularly helpful. He looks forward to her visits because he knows that the hour will be so productive! I highly recommend Tracy as a tutor!

Patient tutor

Tracy has been helping my sophomore son for a few months. She often spends more time with him than we arranged and she always wants to make sure he understands the material. She has been patient and I know she really cares.
