I earned the abitur (international baccalaureate) at night school in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1984, and then enrolled at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany, studying art history and philosophy. In 1987, I switched to the architecture program at Fachhochschule Bochum and earned my diplom ingenieur in architektur in 1993 (graduate engineer in architecture). Since then, I have worked in numerous architectural firms in Bottrop, Germany, Chicago, Illinois, and San Diego, California, gaining extensive experience in a variety of residential, mixed-used, commercial, and institutional projects.

ESL/ESOL,

ESL/ESOL

I first learned English attending the German gymnasium (grades 5 through 13) in the 1970 and early 1980s. In the final 13th-grade exam (the "Abitur" or international baccalaureate, 1983). I achieved a B+. Since 1994, I have lived permanently in the United States working in various architectural firms and teaching part-time at an architecture school. I soon learned to read and speak very fluently (though my speaking is certainly not entirely accent-free). I frequently and routinely read many different types of English text incl. technical, scholarly, philosophical, fictional writings. I also have a good understanding of English grammar owing in part to the thorough teaching of the language in German schools and in part to a continued interest in understanding the rules and the structure of the language. My knowledge in several other foreign languages has proven useful in this regard as well.
French,

French

I first learned French in the German Gymnasium before becoming a fluent speaker after a one-year stay in Paris, France. I later studied French language and literature at the University of Bochum, Germany and have since then continued to regularly read French texts ranging from news media to novels. I am familiar with all major areas of French grammar (reaching in tests the C1-level on the CERF scale (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

German is my native language. My studies in other languages - English, French, Italian - have helped me better understand the particularities of the German grammar and to become better at explaining them to learners of German as a foreign language.

Ruediger made much needed connections for our child.

Our child's immediate response to Ruediger was positive and eye opening. She had numerous areas that needed clarification as far as her in class assignments and exams. Ruediger was able to highlight aspects of French grammar and language conventions that helped her make connections and renewed her enthusiasm for learning French. She is eager to continue lessons with him to refine her skills. Thank you, Ruediger!

Very Enjoyable Lesson

Ruediger was very friendly and knowledgeable. I am new to Autocad and he was able to quickly assess my level of understanding and provide help where I needed it most. I would definitely recommend him to anyone wishing to become more proficient with Autocad.

Excellent tutor!

Ruediger tutored me on learning 2D drawings in AutoCAD. The project was thrown in my lap quite unexpectedly and I only had a week to learn the basics of what is a very complex program. Ruediger is very knowledgeable and helped me understand things by explaining them in a simplified manner. I feel he is very patient and answered all of my questions. I don't know what I would have done if I would not have found him. It has made a huge difference in the material I learned in such a short time frame by having someone to walk me through it. I would absolutely refer a friend or a colleague to this tutor in the future.

Knowledgeable, helpful.

So far, Ruediger has been prompt and helpful. We are working through a translation of a difficult German text, and he has been good to work with in this. I greatly appreciate his help.
