Bio

My name is Kirk and I specialize in performing minor miracles. I have even performed a major miracle or two.

I am so confident in my ability to get you results, that I offer a money-back guarantee on ANY tutoring appointment. If you are not totally happy with your tutoring session, then you pay nothing.

I tutor as a full-time job, unlike the vast majority of other tutors, and if I don't get results, I don't eat. This means that I am very focused on getting students results.

I'm relatively expensive but people hire me semester after semester because I get results, save them time and reduce their stress levels.

Listed below are my qualifications, actual results and feedback from many happy students and parents.

I'm looking forward to helping you out!

Monika: 8-week intermediate-algebra class. First two test results were 25% and 32%. First test score after tutoring was 72%. Received a B.

Frank: Failed applied calculus twice. Seven hours of tutoring over a weekend and passed a make-up final (90%) and the class.

Christina: First two test scores in beginning algebra were 38% and 48%. She passed class and received highest test score in her entire life.

Jessica: Had to take four-month online statistics course in two weeks in order to start graduate school. Completed class in 12 days and received an A.

Izchel: Ready to drop 8-week online algebra class, finished with an A.

STUDENT FEEDBACK:

Colleen: "I met with the tutor [Kirk] today. He is amazing. I highly recommend him to any student struggling with statistics. This information not only makes sense now, but I am also jazzed about learning it. He started by disproving that I have a learning disability, built up my confidence, and then taught the information with absolute clarity."

Bertha: "You're expensive, but worth it." (Parent).

Lauren: "Thanks again for everything. You are a fantastic tutor!"

Megan: "Hey Kirk! I just wanted to say thank you for your help with math the beginning of this last semester. With your help I was able to gain back my math confidence! I ended up with a 97% in my math 116 class, pretty awesome considering I got an F last time."

Jillian: "If I hadn't had you, I definitely would not have passed! I wish that you could have tutored me from the start! I feel like that we’ll be spending lots of time together though when I'm taking stats!"

Statistics

I have tutored hundreds of students from across the United States in introductory statistics. This includes all of the schools in the San Diego area as well as East Coast schools such as Cornell and New York University (NYU). At our first session, I will start with several handouts that translate all of the Greek letters and abstract symbols into plain English. After that, I will use my 20 other handouts to create templates for you to follow. In addition, I will teach you how to remember important information using proven memory techniques. I will also share with you a unique way to remember how to use your graphing calculator to easily solve challenging problems. Working together, I'm confident I can get you through statistics.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

This class develops skills that are used in subjects as diverse as trigonometry, calculus and statistics. Most students breeze through the early material but then hit the wall when it comes to factoring. Unfortunately, factoring is the crucial skill that students must learn in algebra. The good news is that I have developed a proprietary system for factoring that will make factoring one of your favorite things to do. Instead of fearing factoring, you will come to love it as I do!
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Subject matter covered in this class includes matrices, radicals, logarithms, domain, absolute value and systems of equations. In addition, graphing becomes more extensive and complicated. My methods for teaching these subjects are unique and based on my experience tutoring thousands of students over a six-year time period. If you are looking for an easier way to learn algebra, then contact me. You will be happy that you did.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is known as a "major changer." What this means is that many students end up changing their major when they hit calculus. Do not be one of the 50% who fails calculus I. I can get you through this class with a minimum of pain. Let me translate all of the abstract symbols, formulas and definitions into plain English. I also have many handouts that help you get through some of the tougher spots. Please don't wait until you have failed a test or two to get help. Contact me early and reduce your stress and increase your scores.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I take a sophisticated approach to teaching the material in this class. I show students the connection between precalculus and calculus. I like to bring students up to speed on many calculus concepts while they are in precalculus. For instance, I teach students about limits and the difference quotient which are both covered in the first few weeks of calculus. In addition, I will introduce them to the first derivative so that they are not overwhelmed in calculus I.

Trigonometry

If you did well in geometry, then you will do well in trigonometry. However, if you did not, then trig will literally have you going in circles. Speaking of circles, one of the first things I do is to teach my students how to draw the unit circle. Being able to easily draw the unit cicle is a big stress reducer! I also have unique ways of remembering the dozens of formulas that trig uses. Lastly, I have a special graphing technique that will make graphing trig functions super easy.

I enjoyed Kirk’s approach and listening skills

Kirk helped me feel comfortable with what I did not know and helped me to know. He’s a good listener and translator of information that has been a trouble for years.

Great midterm review (1st session)

Kirk gave me great insight on my lessons for my midterm. He showed me other helpful ways to solve a problem. I was glad to have my practice quiz so we could look over all the applicable aspects of what will be on the actual test. I feel much more confident now after today's lesson.

Very patient, methodical teacher

Kirk really helped put confidence back in me that I can actually be successful in my graduate level statistics course. He listens to your problems, assesses where you are at then tailors the lesson to how he can tell what your learning mechanism is. I am already planning multiple more meetings with Kirk, I won’t be able to get through statistics without him.

Mathematical alchemy

Kirk has an amazing way of simplifying concepts into their base elements in a way that is easy to follow and remember. He has found out all the areas in which most people (probably you) are struggling and boils down these difficult concepts into extremely simple basic concepts. It's almost magic (hence the title of the review). I can tell that he is extremely experienced and has spent a lot of time thinking through the different ways that people learn and how to present the concepts to students based on this knowledge. But he is also patient and willing to listen, never assuming that he already knows what your problem is or jumping to conclusions. After my session, I came home and worked through some problems that had previously taken me hours of trial-and-error drudgery to solve. I'm now breezing through them with ease. Needless to say, I will definitely be taking some more lessons with Kirk in the near future. One other thing: He provides you with a of online resources to help you in your individual study that I've already found to be extremely valuable.

Best tutor!!

Very helpful and goes at the pace that you need. Really cares about his students and encourages them to do the best they can. He also gives you a mini ruler and staples. :)

Helpful and patient tutor

Kirk is very pleasant and knowledgeable. He broke the subject down into terms I could understand. He is patient and thorough. I look forward to meeting with him again.

Very helpful

I struggle with these topics and Kirk arrived with handouts and formula pages with legends for the symbols and everything. It was extremely helpful and I look forward to continuing to work with him!

Excellent Tutor!

I reached out to Kirk for my daughter who was taking a 3 1/2 week winter intersession statistics class, which she needed to pass for her transfer from community. Given the short timeframe of the course, there was no room for error. After reading so many great reviews for Kirk, I decided to reach out to him for help. He responded immediately and has really been terrific. He was very accommodating, flexible and ready to meet with my daughter according to her tight schedule- the class was 3 hours each day. He made himself accessible and there were no issues at all with scheduling- which was great. He also kept me posted on what they went through and how she was doing. From my daughter's perspective, Kirk really cared about her doing well in the class and understanding the material. She felt he was excellent at teaching, and knew exactly what she needed to learn for the course. He would review the previous lesson, going through any of her questions- thoroughly explaining as needed. He would then prepare her for the next lesson. Her first test score was 75, which is when we contacted Kirk. After tutoring with Kirk, she got a 94 and a 100 on the tests, and bottom line- she received an A in the course. Obviously, she had to put in the time, effort and hard work- but with Kirk working with her, it was a great team effort! I would highly recommend Kirk as he is a gem- and a fantastic tutor!
