College graduate who specializes tutoring college students in math

I graduated with a Bachelor's in Mathematics from Sacramento State and graduated with an Associate's in American River College specializing in Physical Sciences and Mathematics. I have made the Dean's List every semester that I have been a student and received a Certificate of Achievement in the MESA program (Mathematics Science Engineering Achievement) celebrating my efforts in completing STEM courses at the junior college level.

I have been tutoring students at Citrus College since October. The tutoring program, known as STEM TRiO, offers services to disadvantaged students, predominantly being first generation. When I started this position, the services were held remotely. However, some of the tutoring sessions are currently held on campus while other sessions remain virtual. I have mainly helped students tackle problems in calculus courses. I am a visual learner, so I explain the concepts to students in a visual manner so that they can get a better picture of how to approach the question. I break it down succinctly so that a child can understand it. Overall I have received compliments from my teaching style including positive feedback from students and staff members.

What I love about tutoring is that a student has a better knowledge of the material. Assisting them can lead to an improvement in their grade. Having a personal relationship with the student can help me understand their background and their goals they want to accomplish. I look forward to further achieving a student’s goals by utilizing this platform.

As a student, algebra was my strongest subject. The reason I was successful was because I paid attention in class, asked questions, and applied what I had learned through practicing homework problems. Students taking algebra tend to have trouble with factoring expressions and I am able to clear those doubts by demonstrating examples and allowing them to practice concepts that expand their learning.
