Hello!
My name is Kim, I am going to Sacramento State for Special Education; I have an AA in Liberal Studies - Elementary Education, and an A.S. in Behavioral Sciences. I strive to bring my knowledge to help children understand a concept or skill, and I will go out of my way to ensure that the child understands the concepts before continuing to another section.
I have a year and a half experience in tutoring elementary-age children in math, and over two years tutoring in reading, phonics/phonemic awareness, and grammar. My philosophy is to use hands-on learning, as most children learn by seeing and doing, and to support the whole child's social-emotional development.
Reading has always been a passion of mine. You can often find me - in my free-time - reading a book for hours at a time. I have also taken a tutoring reading-specific course; and tutored several children in reading. I believe that a good foundation for reading begins with phonological awareness and phonics.
I believe that a good foundation for phonics is first building the phonological awareness, as this is the foundation for a good understanding of phonics and reading.
In addition, I have experience working with children with special needs; including deaf, hard of hearing, and children with ADHD, and enjoy every minute I spend with these amazing individuals that I have the privilege of helping them.
I love the benefit of working with the students I work with, and will go out of my way to help them.
