Bio

I have a Master's Degree in Mathematics and have been tutoring all levels of College Math for 5+ years, and I have also taught Math at a University. I am especially knowledgeable of Algebra, Statistics, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1 and 2, and Linear Algebra. I can also help with most other subjects including Differential Equations, Real Analysis, and Group / Ring Theory.

I am happy to provide various examples and approaches for any concept. I firmly believe that there is no one "right" way of tackling these topics, but rather everyone learns differently. I find great joy in helping others understand topics that they feel lost in; it's why I wish to teach. One should never feel badly about needing certain things explained to them, or about requesting a different explanation.

If you find yourself struggling with your math class, just remember that you are not alone. I would also suggest to get help early and often, since getting the basics down is the most important part of the process. I would like to share the beauty of mathematics, and reveal connections and ideas that will aid in remembering all sorts of topics. I pride myself on making math fun and relatable. I am patient and tenacious, and am available most days and most hours.

Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is one of my favorite subjects as it is the culmination of everything you've learned in math up to this point. Since I've been tutoring math for 4+ years, I've taught all of the specific components of this class and of course, Calculus itself. I am especially proficient in Calc I + II, and I can make my way through Calc 3 material if given the theorems involved and an example.

I'm a lecturer at a university, which is where I most recently taught Linear Algebra in Fall 2021. The class was geared towards Applied Linear Algebra for engineers and computer scientists, but all the basics are the same. I can still remember struggling with the subject as a student, so I still have some insight on how much of a shift Linear Algebra can be.

I've been tutoring math for 4+years and Precalculus is the basis for all math afterwards. It involves advanced algebra, graphing, trigonometry, and sequences all of which are very necessary for Calculus. Since I tutor all of those subjects individually, I have a very firm grasp of this class as a whole.

I am highly proficient in basic Stats courses, i.e. the one you probably need to pass to move on to other classes or even to graduate. I am the resident Stats tutor at the University I am attending. In my 4+ years of tutoring math I have helped many a student make sense of probability, the Central Limit Theorem, the normal (standard) distribution, regression, confidence intervals, and the dreaded hypothesis testing. I can also manage some Business Math, Business Calc, and other "advanced" Stats courses, that may involve ANOVAS, chi-squared tests, and others, and help make sense of all that.

When I started retaking math courses later in life, Trigonometry was one of the first that I took. It came back to me quickly and I had great success in it. Since then, I've tutored math for 4+ years and Trigonometry has become one of my favorite areas in math. It's just so beautiful and elegant!

Incredibly Patient and Helpful

I completely brain dumped after taking calculus 1 over a year ago. I could not remember any concept or rule going into calculus 2 and have been so embarrassed to ask simple/basic questions to my peers and/or professor. That said, I’m so grateful that I began sessions with Benjamin as he is not only great at solving any problem I throw at him, but makes me feel really comfortable about asking any question. I don’t feel as intimidated and scared of math as I was a few weeks ago. I look forward to our sessions and I leave feeling motivated and better than before. Beyond amazing tutor. Amazing / Outstanding!

Benjamin meets the student where they are at. My son is very introverted which can be awkward for some but Benjamin made a quick assessment/read and jumped right into an amazing session. My 15-year-old said he learned more in that hour than a week of class. Our family will continue to use Benjamin for as long as he's available whether that be a week or years. Great catch for Wyzant!
