Hi there! My name is Laura, I am a recent grad from UCSB, and I am here for all of your math needs! After graduating from UCSB, I took on a position as a Math Intervention Teacher at a high school. My job as Math Intervention Teacher was to provide students with help in the following high school math courses: Integrated I, II, and III (synonymous with Algebra 1 and 2, and geometry as well as a little bit of pre-calculus).

I helped students who were failing their classes pass with at least a C or better. It was my job to have an understanding of the material to the point where I could relay this information to students in a manner that made it easy to grasp. I love math, and love getting students see that it is not that scary after all!

I was a Math Intervention Tutor for eight months before starting a job for a tech company. I have private tutored for 7 years and have have tutored some students for almost 6+ years (6th grade to 12th grade math)

Common Core

I am UCSB graduate who worked as a Math Intervention Teacher where I would help students in Integrated 1,2, and 3 pass their Math course with a B or better. I passed the CBEST and ranked in the 98th percentile. I am well versed with the Common Core standards and believe that learning should be fun, and try to apply that theory with all of my students so that math becomes something enjoyable.

- Passed CBEST (test needed to substitute in the state of California) - Math Intervention Teacher: 1 year. I helped students who struggled in Math. Our goal was to get them to pass with a B or better, and we were able to get more than 70% of our students to pass their math classes - Long term substitute: 3 Months for a second grade class. I covered Math, ELA, social studies
Piano

Piano

I took piano lessons for 15 years. I am able to read music, sight read, and understand the basics of music composition. In grade school, I joined band where I played the flute for 3 years and was in the Jazz band where I played the piano. During high school i continued to take private piano lessons twice a week, and I now play as often as I can. I gave lessons to various people before heading off to college, where I also took a few music courses.
Spanish

Spanish

I am bilingual— I grew up speaking both English and Spanish simultaneously as my maternal grandparents only spoke Spanish. In high school I took four years of Spanish, including AP Spanish, and passed the AP exam with a 5. I attended UCSB for my undergraduate degree and also took a Spanish course there. Spanish is a beautiful language that is great to know in life. It is the most spoken language in the world, and can benefit you in many ways!
