Tutoring Approach: When working one-on-one with students, I always begin with questions to get an idea of the student’s current understanding of the material. From there, I try to explain any gaps in the students' understanding, provide the student scaffolds to approach specific problems, and give the student specific problem solving tips and strategies. My general goal is to build the student’s understanding of the material, ability to self assess, and ability and confidence in problem solving.

Personal Biography: I grew up in West LA before attending school in San Diego. I moved to Wisconsin in 2019 for work opportunities. This fell through during the pandemic, so I began doing online tutoring. I found I quite liked tutoring, and so I pursued education as a career path. In 2026, I left my classroom teaching job in Wisconsin in order to move closer to family in LA. I am currently tutoring and doing other education related work in between finding certified teaching work here in LA.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

As part of my academic career I've taken and used Calculus in multiple contexts. In high school, I took both the AP Calculus AB and BC exams and passed with a 5. I also got a 5 on the AP Physics C: Mechanics calculus based course. I took several additional calculus classes in college including multivariable calculus and differential equations. Calculus is an integral part of the language of physics, so a firm grasp of calculus was indispensable for achieving my Bachelor's of Science in Physics.
MATLAB

MATLAB

My approach to MATLAB tutoring is to help students understand concepts so they understand how to code rather than writing the code for them. When I work with students on programming assignments in general, I find it is best to have short intermittent meetings with them as they need help. We talk about next steps and clarify any material that is unclear before stopping the meeting to let the students attempt to work themselves. I've used MATLAB for numerous different problems in pursuit of my Bachelor's degree and as a research assistant. Some simulations that I've written up in MATLAB include random walks, fluid flow simulations, and Polymer Chain Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations. I've also used it more generally for plotting and analyzing different data sets.
Physics

Physics

As part of my Bachelor's, I've completed coursework in Classical Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Waves and Optics, Special Relativity, and Quantum Mechanics among other areas of physics. I also took the AP Physics C: Mechanics exam in high school and passed with a 5.
Praxis

Praxis

I passed the Praxis in Spring 2024 with a 193. My undergraduate coursework has given a multidisciplinary with chemistry and biology around a strong physics backbone. I've tutored and TAed physics for several years, and I've done a semester of student teaching in a 9th grade Biology class.

Very good tutor

Alexander is knowledgeable and is very patient. He is flexible with the schedule and tries to accommodate changes to the best he can. He is sincere and takes a lot of effort in making sure the material is well understood. He quickly understood the pace in which my daughter can absorb the material and adjusted his teaching accordingly. My daughter found his tutoring very helpful to get a leg up in class.

Effective Teaching Approach & Knowledgeable

Alexander worked with my daughter who is a high school Junior on AP Calculus. He has a calm and patient demeanor and is thoughtful in his teaching approach, making sure to ask questions along the way to understand what the student does and doesn’t understand, in order to help fill in the relevant knowledge gaps. Very helpful and easy to work with!
