Hello, my name is Michael, and I am a currently licensed teacher with a California clear credential and over 8 years of classroom experience. I have experience tutoring almost every subject and grade level, although I specialize in teaching math and science: algebra, geometry, algebra 2, trigonometry and pre-calculus, biology, physiology and physics. I also have a passion for music. Prior to my classroom teaching career, I spent over a decade as a professional musician writing, recording and performing with my band, World Tribe. This eventually lead to an opportunity to teach guitar lessons, which I can also provide to children and adults. I specialize in teaching acoustic, bass and electric guitars, and helping students to read music and understand basic music theory.

For whatever subject I am teaching, I focus on the individual needs of each client. I will find the most efficient and effective way to get improved results in your specific areas of concern, for example:
* Academic vocabulary/reading comprehension
* Graphs/tables
* Note-taking/homework
* Studying/testing
* Labs/projects

If you live in or near the South Bay, or prefer to meet online, please consider me when you or your child needs tutoring in the comfort of your home.

Common Core

Common Core

I received years of training in the (BTSA) program as I was earning my clear teaching credential. The entire BTSA program focused on common core curriculum. As a math and science teacher at John C. Fremont Senior High in Los Angeles, I gained years of experience implementing common core strategies in my classroom.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

During my initial teacher training, I was undecided between math and science. This led me to prepare for my credential for both subjects. Now, with over 8 years of high school teaching experience, I am certain I can help anyone improve their comprehension of math at any level. After countless hours teaching and tutoring students at Fremont Senior High School, I am aware of the problems that many students have when it comes to understanding algebra and geometry. I love coming up with creative ways to explain mathematical concepts to my students!
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

By making a connection to familiar concepts and formulas from Algebra 1 and Geometry, I have helped many students understand Algebra 2. My academic background includes studying Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus at PV High School, and studying Calculus while attending USC. I have helped students better understand parent functions, transformations, quadratic equations, imaginary numbers, polynomials, synthetic division, graphing, exponents and logarithms.

Chemistry,

Chemistry

Understanding chemistry is required to understand biological structures and functions. Most of my experience using the concepts and formulas related to chemistry relate to biology. However, my background also includes studying Chemistry and Organic Chemistry while attending USC. Also, I have taught introductory chemistry to high school freshman. I can help students better understand atoms, ions, elements, compounds, the periodic table, and chemical equations. I have also helped students complete lab reports and science fair projects.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry is all about understanding the mathematics behind shape and proportion. It is one of the most practical applications of math, although it can be difficult for some students. By using visual elements and defining relevant terminology, I can take the mystery out of geometry for my clients.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

As a high school teacher, I've had many students come to me for help at lunch and after school. By defining mathematical terms and explaining solutions step-by-step, I have been able to assist numerous students with their pre-algebra and other math classes. Understanding exponents, fractions, percentages, radicals and reciprocals and triangles is critical to success with pre-algebra.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry involves properties and ratios of right triangles, and it is used in many applications of math and science. I originally studied Trigonometry at Palos Verdes High School. Then while attending USC, it was necessary to understand Trigonometry to succeed in Physics and Calculus. By making connections to familiar concepts from Algebra and Geometry, I can make it easier to learn and understand Trigonometry.
