I am an experienced English teacher currently in my 20th year working in high schools. For undergrad, I was an English/ Classics double major at the College of the Holy Cross, and I spent my junior year studying abroad at Trinity College Dublin. I earned my Master's degree in English through Middlebury College's Bread Loaf School of English, and I also completed a graduate program in Education through Montana State University. I have taught a variety of English classes in high school, such as Coming of Age in Literature, Literature as Social Commentary, Critically Reading Graphic Novels, AP English Language and Literature, Journalism, and Mythology. I have helped many students write scholarship and college application essays.

I enjoy bringing lots of enthusiasm and energy to my teaching and tutoring. I tailor my tutoring to the student's individual needs. I can help students with writing organization and analysis, research writing, reading strategies, grammar, vocabulary, and ACT or SAT preparation.

Specific areas I can help:
- ACT English and Reading
- SAT Writing & Language and Reading
- AP English Language: Rhetorical Analysis, Synthesis Essay, or multiple-choice
- AP English Literature: essays or multiple-choice
- Any English class assignments
- Vocabulary and grammar
- Essay proofreading
- College and scholarship essays
- MLA Works Cited and in-text citations
- Close reading and annotations

Please reach out to me to schedule lessons in any area of English, writing, reading, or test preparation.

Great Results

Michael has been tutoring my 6th grader in grammar and composition nice a week for several months. Michael has been helping him with homework, reviewing parts of speech, test preparation, and more. My son actually looks forward to his time with Michael. Not only have my son’s grades improved a lot, his attitude toward English has improved. He doesn’t complain as much about doing his homework, now that he is understanding it better. I can’t recommend Michael highly enough. He has saved this school year for us.
