I am a current high school chemistry teacher who has been teaching for the past four years. I have done STEM private tutoring during those years as well. I have a BA in Chemistry from Williams College and MA in Education from Stanford University. My tutoring methodology always starts with what the students already know and then I give them the tools they need to get to what they need know. I believe in tutoring where 30% of the time I am talking and 70% of the time students is talking. I encourage my students to explain their thinking, summarize the steps in their work, and extend their learning creatively to new situations.

I believe that it's important as a tutor to visualize student thinking. For that purpose, I ask students to bring a notebook and either schoolwork assignments or a topic to learn about. I always start with example problems right away. My students draw or explain my drawings on a virtual whiteboard. The whiteboard works as a to look at problems together. I post screenshots of practice problems and we analyze the question and work through the problem together. I follow a gradual release model in which I hold the student's hand for the first problem, then gradually release them so eventually they are doing and explaining the steps for the entire problem.

I have tutored over 20 students before in all math levels from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus and from Physical Science to AP Chemistry. I can tutor 1-1 or in small groups of 2-3 students. I want to benefit the students as much as possible and welcome any parent or student feedback at the end of sessions.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

As a high school chemistry teacher, I am often teaching not just science, but also the requisite algebra skills necessary for my class. I have taught lessons on ratios, percentages, single and multi-step equations, quadratic equations, and systems of equations. I am familiar with the common student misconceptions in each step of the way and hope to bring success to all my students.
Calculus

Calculus

I have tutored several students in AP Calculus AB and BC over the past three years. These students have went on to get 4's and 5's on their AP exams. As a high school STEM teacher, I have a lot of experience teaching math to my students.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I graduated from Williams College in Chemistry and worked as a teaching assistant for three years while in college. As a current high school chemistry teacher, I have been teaching for almost 4 years. I have in-depth experience with the different student misconceptions along with strategies for learning chemistry that have worked in my classroom.
Precalculus

Precalculus

As a high school chemistry teacher, I have a strong math background and am excited to share the tips and tricks that I have used to help students succeed in upper level high school math classes like Pre-Calculus. As a tutor, I will focus on solving problems with you instead of lecturing at you, as that is how I was able to succeed in high school, by doing lots of problems and creating the mental set required to recognize the strategy needed for each problem. From easy ways to memorize formulas to choosing the correct strategy for each problem, I would love to help you succeed in PreCalculus
SAT Math

SAT Math

As someone who has tutored people in SAT math before, I have lots of experience with the different problem solving strategies required to succeed at the SAT math section. My SAT math section score was 800 when I was in high school. Through the use of lots of practice and test taking strategies, I hope to take your student to success in ST math as well.
