I work with children from the general population to those with special needs in areas of ADD, autism and children with emotional trama. I work as a tutor instead of a teacher because I enjoy working in a small group or one on one. I like to adapt my lessons to the student's needs and I find this easier to do in a smaller situation. I enjoy establishing a relationship with the student and figuring out the best way to teach them the information. I enjoy using technology to teach the students and try to find a creative way to do it. I want to make the learning fun and not a chore to the student. My style of teaching tends to be more easy going and fun. I try to focus on making it fun and adapt to their needs in a creative way.

I have been working with children in foster care in core subjects from grades K-12th grade for the past seven years. Sessions are two hours each, twice per week throughout the school year. I help students foster skills in elementary and middle school math, Algebra 1 and 2, English, phonics, test taking, note taking, creative writing, research and technical writing. I coordinate with teachers, counselors and social workers on goals for the student and track their academic progress. I am part of a support system for the student in their academic challenges and provide techniques to help them overcome the areas where assistance is needed. I find creative ways to get the students engaged in the session and create a lesson plan that best fits the individual needs. I create and modify modules that work with the particular student’s needs. I also have private students I work with under the same subject categories. I either work with them on improving a certain weakness or use my own materials to repack them with they aren’t understanding the concept.
