I would love to hear from you regarding any trouble you might have with Spanish/ESL. I am a good listener and really good at finding out what the best way to help you improve your skills is. We can schedule lessons at your own pace, themed by your personal interest!

About my passion for teaching languages:
I have been a language teacher for more than half my life now. After I concluded my English language studies, I started teaching English in my teens to stay connected to the language (if you don't use it, you lose it, right?). The fact that I could help someone else learn it and communicate globally was just fascinating and so rewarding to me, and I was probably one of the youngest teachers ever back then, which had its pros and cons... but we can talk about it one day when we are meeting for conversation practice :)
After teaching ESL and EFL for more than ten years, I moved to the U.S. to pursue graduate studies in Spanish Literature and Culture, and after graduating, I became a college professor. I have experience teaching beginning to advanced courses. My favourite classes were (still are!) Literature - I love reading -, and Film, because who doesn't like studying by watching and discussing movies! Apart from the classroom experience, I always enjoyed tutoring in one-on-one settings, especially to practice conversation, reviewing homework and grammar, which sometimes can be hard in a classroom setting with too many students.

First Certificate of English of the University of Cambridge.

Beyond expectations!

Karen has been meeting with my daughter to improve her conversational Spanish skills. Her vocabulary and fluency are improving dramatically. The 1:1 experience accelerated the learning. Highly recommend!

The best!

Karen was awesome. She had tons of ideas for ways to help me improve my Spanish conversation, including book and movie recommendations that I can check out in my own time. She put me totally at ease! I highly recommend her!

Knowledgable, supportive and precise

Karen is supporting my sophomore with Spanish III. He is struggling a lot with the grammar and language demands. Karen encourages him, tells him where to focus, how to understand the grammar and helps him with the difficult concepts. She helped him greatly prepare for his oral and written finals.

Energetic and Fun!

Karen is a very energized and inspired teacher that carries a high level of enthusiasm only rivaled by her deep understanding of the Spanish language! I would recommend anyone who is beginning, intermediate, or advanced, to take a lesson with her!

Through, polite, and fast

Karen was a pleasure to work with. She was very fast with looking over a study guide/flash cards I was working on. Her eye for detail was great, along with her ability to explain it in a way I could understand. I hope to work with her again. I learned a lot from our lesson.
