I worked with two other tutors that were unable to keep my 9 year old, high energy fourth grader interested in studying. One was a study service and the other a sweet older lady. When I found Angela she began to engage my son with white board projects and encouraged him along the way. She usually starts the session with 30 minutes of reading and that seems to focus his attention. He is always excited to go to tutoring. Crazy but true.
Your son is great in mathematics and focuses well while "processing" math. He is a great reader and comprehends reading material well. He excels in grammar and is a quick learner. He engages well and benefits with breaks and ability to release energy when needed. This is allowed. Together, we make games and competitions while learning 4th grade sight words. This is also allowed as learning should be "fun" too. He engages well in learning and I try to acclimate lessons to meet student's needs to make for a healthy and safe learning environment. I look forward to working with him as he is a delightful young boy and I am confident in reaching new learning goals in his academic career.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My experience is in Special Education for 15 years in both elementary and high school age children. I have worked at a High School in the largest department on campus: Special Education and work on a daily basis with students with ADD/ADHD. I am very cognizant of this special need and how it can hamper a student's education, but I have skills to reel them back in to "focus" on lesson assigned in a classroom setting along with one on one teaching. It can be challenging for parents but with the right teacher/tutor it is manageable for student to succeed in an educational setting. I am able to give suggestions to each student in learning how focus better especially in a one on one teaching environment.
I worked as a Substitute at my kids elementary schools K-8th grade and worked in special needs area (2 years). I am a credentialed pre-school teacher (5 years experience). I worked as Assistant Director at our church with our youth; preschool- 8th grade (7 years experience). I currently work with high school 9th-12th grade students (14 years experience).
I currently work with students and am teaching multiplication and division. I also teach addition and subtraction. I would rate myself an A+ in this area.
I collaboratively teach English in High School English class for past 2 years. In classroom are both regular and special needs students. Literature, short stories, poems along with writing paragraphs and comprehensive questions follow reading assignments. Expository reading is read and both oral and comprehensive writing assignments follow. Additionally, I teach and tutor E.S.L. elementary and high school students reading skills as educator of 19 years.
I have worked in SPECIAL EDUCATION for 14 years with High School resource/mild/moderate students. The classes have been pre-algebra and intermediate algebra and English. 2013-2014 school year will be year 15 for me. I have scheduled students IEP meetings and worked one on one with more needy students (such as in wheelchairs).
Additionally, I worked in Special Needs/Special Education in the Elementary School District. One on one with brain injured students, autistic, and ADHD/ADD students.
Upon completion of this school year, I will have 19 years experience in EDUCATION. My experience ranges from teaching Preschoolers through middle school and now High School. Additionally, I proctor College Entrance Exams. This is rewarding and enriching for both myself and my students. I easily spot areas of concern from keeping an organized back pack to perfecting an essay. I give my students test taking strategies and know what teachers expect on rubrics and meet all requirements confidently.
I collaboratively teach this in our English class as part of our curriculum during the school year.
