I teach grammar in English class as this is part of our curriculum during the school year. I focus on parts of speech; noun, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, etc.. I include strategies to learn prepositions and prepositional phrases, subjects, predicates/verbs, and direct and indirect objects. Teach proper use of each part of speech and function and how to properly use in sentences and essays. We use daily exercises to enhance better sentence structure and practice grammar; subject-verb agreement, conjunctions, clause vs, sentences, etc.

Special Needs

ADHD,

ADHD

My experience is in Special Education for 20 years in both elementary and high school age children. I have worked at a High School in the largest department on campus: Special Education and work on a daily basis with students with ADD/ADHD. I am very cognizant of this special need and how it can hamper a student's education, but I have skills to reel them back in to "focus" on lesson assigned in a classroom setting along with one on one teaching. It can be challenging for parents but with the right teacher/tutor it is manageable for student to succeed in an educational setting. I am able to give suggestions to each student in learning how to focus better especially in a one on one teaching environment.

Special Needs

I have worked in SPECIAL EDUCATION for 20 years with High School resource/mild-moderate students. The classes have been Pre-Algebra and Intermediate Algebra, English, World History, U.S. History, Earth Science, and Biology. I have scheduled students IEP meetings and am very familiar with IEP'S and the process. I have worked one on one with severely handicapped (SH) students (such as in wheelchairs). Additionally, I worked in Special Needs/Special Education in the Elementary School District. One on one with brain injured students, autistic, and ADHD/ADD students.

Fantastic tutor!

I wish I found her earlier. Text is next week. Soon we will see how her efforts helped my son. The proof in the pudding as they say.

Understands how to work with my high energy 9 year old boy

I worked with two other tutors that were unable to keep my 9 year old, high energy fourth grader interested in studying. One was a study service and the other a sweet older lady. When I found Angela she began to engage my son with white board projects and encouraged him along the way. She usually starts the session with 30 minutes of reading and that seems to focus his attention. He is always excited to go to tutoring. Crazy but true.

Tutor responded:

Your son is great in mathematics and focuses well while "processing" math. He is a great reader and comprehends reading material well. He excels in grammar and is a quick learner. He engages well and benefits with breaks and ability to release energy when needed. This is allowed. Together, we make games and competitions while learning 4th grade sight words. This is also allowed as learning should be "fun" too. He engages well in learning and I try to acclimate lessons to meet student's needs to make for a healthy and safe learning environment. I look forward to working with him as he is a delightful young boy and I am confident in reaching new learning goals in his academic career.
