During my third year, I completed the Raab Writing Fellowship, in which I participated in a year-long fellowship focused on advanced creative writing and interdisciplinary collaboration.
For the past two years, I have worked as a writing tutor at UCSB's Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS). I've spent one-on-one time with various collegiate and graduate students consulting papers across all disciplines. I approach the session as a consultation, in which my goal is to help the student unravel any blocks or concerns they have for their paper. I check the prompt of the assignment, then proceed with reading through and assessing their work. At this point, I address higher-level concerns first with the intention of fine-tuning as the last step. I have worked with students through brainstorming with just a prompt, developing their paragraphs, and proofreading for clarity. I also have experience with editing admissions essays and personal statements. My goal is to give students the confidence they need to understand their assignments and feel proud of their work, because I believe everyone has the potential to be a great writer.
While my recent experience has been tutoring in higher education, I have extensive experience with elementary-aged students from teaching and babysitting. I have previously tutored Level 2-4 reading skills and also taught piano lessons. My consulting is always individualized to find the best method of learning for you:)
