I have over 20+ years of work/tutoring/mentoring experience. I enjoy teaching all the subjects I have been studying and working in all my life. Engineering, Math, Physics, Sciences of all sorts, mostly nuclear and electrical engineering, which entails a lot. I have worked in Nuclear Submarines (veteran USN), Nuclear Power Plants, and in the Semiconductor Industry for well over 20 years.

During my career, I have mostly worked in the Electronics Industry helping to create and produce new Integrated Circuits, commonly known as "chips". The basic of the electronics inside all of your personal and household devices, and many other things. I spent a lot of time in the lab doing research and investigation into the performance and quality of electronics. Many, many experiments. I have used my education to its fullest extent and mentored / tutored many young people along the way.

I love math. I study it still to this day. While earning my degrees I always took more math classes than necessary. My knowledge and experience in mathematics definitely creep into the PhD level. I really enjoy math! I also love the sciences. Applied and theoretical Engineering, math, and physics. Whether it be on the nuclear submarine, at the cyclotron facility, or in the electronics lab. Science, math, physics are my life.

While working in the lab all those years, it is important to automate experiments and collect data using a suite of electronic instrument and circuits controlled by a PC. And, of course, this PC must be programmed to do this work. I have been writing laboratory software in C (and some other languages), on both, DOS/Windows and Unix based platforms, for 30 years.

If you like Science, Math, Physics, and maybe even a little history and philosophy too, then let's get together and do some learning!

Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

I have been working in the Electrical Engineering Industry for over 30 years. Semiconductor design, development, and production. I graduated from Santa Clara University with an M.S. in EECS in 1992 and from University of California at Berkeley with a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering in 1982.
Geometry

Geometry

I have studied mathematics at Santa Clara University and the University of California at Berkeley and have taken many classes at the graduate level. I have a Master's of Science degree. Geometry is one of my particular favorites due to its rich and ancient history.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I have a B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering, UC Berkeley. Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering of Nuclear Power Plants was the major subject of my studies. I also have 5+ years work experience as a United State Navy Submarine Officer and Nuclear Power Plant Manager / Operator, Head of the Mechanical Division, USS Aspro, SSN 648, Fast Attack Nuclear Submarine. My education at Berkeley included Mechanical Engineering Classes in Materials Science, Mech. Engineering Drafting and Design, Mechanics - Statics and Dynamics, Civil Engineering, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics/Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials/Solids, and many classes in Physics and Mathematics.

Best tutor in my life!

Dick was perfect. He was prepared, knew his material, listened to my questions without judgement, and was patient with me. I learned a lot about how circuits work and how to read the symbols in circuit diagrams. I highly recommend Dick S. for your electronics questions.

Thank you

Mr. Dick is teaching me Statics at the moment. He is very patient and makes sure I understands every bit of the topic. Mr Dick is someone who wants a student to succeed in getting to their goals in academic. He charge very little but gives so much and finds a way to help you understand the subject and helps you get that understanding that one needs. He retired serving in the military and he’s still serving the people. Thank you for your service and thank you still. Mr. Dick.

Knowledgeable and patient!

My son has done a 360 in circuits due to working with Dick. When we discuss quizzes and tests Michael now talks with confidence. We couldn’t be happier! Thanks Dick.

Super helpful! 10/10 recommend!

Dick was very helpful. He helped me to understand the content better. It was very obvious that he cared about making sure I understood the content better. He stayed past the hour helping me finish a problem and did not charge me for the additional time. He explained concepts in a way that helped me to comprehend them better and to understand real-world applications. I highly recommend him as an electrical engineering tutor! He also seemed very knowledgeable on mechanical and nuclear engineering, which led to interesting conversations that helped me with thinking about graduate school programs. Thank you so much, Dick! Many blessings.

Dick is a great teacher!

I don't learn well and I'm difficult to teach, Dick is patient with me and explains thoroughly, I appreciate it very much and I can't wait till our next lesson I feel very comfortable now I was a little hesitant at first but now I feel confident

Johnnie, 4 lessons with Dick

Expert in Fluid Mechanics

We went over various problems on several topics such as similitude, Bernoulli, and buoyancy (among others). Dick explained them all in a simple, easy to understand way. Highly recommended!
