Phoebe’s educational experience includes a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from UCLA and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Biola; along with her high test scores on the GRE (graduate level test result), she is able to tutor a wide range of topics encompassing both the sciences and the humanities. The dichotomy of her educational endeavors is also reflected in her singular approach to teaching. By applying aptitudes obtained in the natural sciences and clinical psychology, Phoebe is a vivid witness to the fact that the mind and the body can’t be separated in matters of learning and motivation. The California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) is a standardized test administered throughout the state of California and Oregon for individuals who want to teach at public schools and gain a credential. It is divided into 3 sections; the Reading section and the Math section each contain 50 multiple-choice questions, while the Writing section consists of two essay questions. The test must be completed in four hours, but test-takers may use that time to work on any or all of the three sections. For the past 3 years, I have successfully tutored numerous students who were preparing to take the CBEST with success. This is based on the fact that as a science major who obtained a bachelor degree in Biochemistry from the University of CA, Los Angeles, UCLA, I have received very high scores from the GRE (Graduate Record Examination: Reading Comprehension: 94th Percentile; Analytical Writing: 94th Percentile, Math: 770 out of 800). At the same time, the Math, the Reading and the Writing section on the CBEST are very similar to the 3 sections on the GRE. For the math, the GRE is in reality much more difficult than the CBEST and consists of problems based on Algebraic and Statistical concepts and problems. The same parallel can be drawn for the Reading and the Writing sections of CBEST.

The ISEE stands for the Independent School Entrance Exam and it is an admission test that contains four levels: primary, lower, middle and upper: • Primary level is for students enrolled in grades 1, 2 and 3. It is an hour-long test which mainly focus on a reading and math section and a short writing sample. • Lower level is for students currently in grades 4 and 5. • Middle level is for students in grades 6 and 7. • Upper level is for students in grades 8 through 11. For the Lower, Middle, and Upper levels, the ISEE consists of three parts: (1) carefully constructed and standardized verbal and quantitative reasoning tests that measure capability for learning; (2) reading comprehension and mathematics achievement tests that provide specific information about strengths and weaknesses in those areas; and (3) an essay section. The essay is timed and written in response to a prompt. It is not scored; it is photocopied and sent only to the schools requested. The TEAS covers 4 sections and it is used as an entrance test for individuals who want to pursue a career in nursing assistant or nursing. These 4 sections include: 1. READING 2. MATH 3. SCIENCE 4. The ENGLISH and LANGUAGE USAGE I have successfully tutored students who were preparing to take the TEAS with success. This is based on the fact that as a science major who obtained a bachelor degree in Biochemistry from the University of CA, Los Angeles, UCLA, I have received very high scores from the GRE (Graduate Record Examination: Reading Comprehension: 94th Percentile; Analytical Writing: 94th Percentile, Math: 770 out of 800). At the same time, the Reading, the English and Language Usage, and the Math section on the TEAS is very similar to the GRE. For the math, the GRE is in reality much much more difficult than the TEAS and consists problems based on Algebraic and Statistical concepts and problems; The same parallel can be drawn for the Reading and the English and language Usage sections. Given the fact I majored in Biochemistry at the University of CA, Los Angeles, I also tutor Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

My score improved

Phoebe tutored me in verbal as well as quantitative. My score improved 6 points in the verbal section and 5 points in the quant section. She gives practice material as homework and then goes over it in depth with you during the session which is extremely helpful to have access to as much material as possible. In regards to the math section specifically, she first teaches you the concepts through exercises and then shows you how to apply those concepts to real GRE questions. This is helpful because with the fundamentals being taught first you can apply what you know to just about any GRE problem instead of learning how to do specific problems and not being able to relate it to something slightly different next time.

GREAT TUTOR! FIVE STARS!!

This was our first time using Wyzant. My daughter wanted to improve her score on the reading section of the ACT. She knew she would struggle with that section based on the 9th & 10th grade pre ACT scores. I spoke with Phoebe before the session and I knew she would be a good tutor for my daughter, so we scheduled the first tutoring session in January for the ACT test date in March. Phoebe is a great tutor!! My daughter did not want to sit in ACT prep classes and she did not want to use self paced courses. She immediately complimented Phoebe tutoring and approach to the subject. After a few sessions she felt more confident and answered questions correctly on the practice tests. After only 7 weeks of tutoring and meeting once a week, she scored a 29 on the reading section (91st percentile). I wish we found Phoebe sooner and had more time to schedule twice a week so she could’ve worked on the science section too! Overall my daughter did great on the ACT and Phoebe really helped where it mattered most for my daughter! 5 stars and we would definitely recommend Phoebe! Thank you Phoebe!!
