I am a highly successful high school physics and earth science teacher and tutor since 1996. I have been certified to teach physics and earth science/geosciences in three states including California. Courses that I have taught include Conceptual Physics, General Physics, Honors Physics, Advanced Placement Physics (both Calculus and non-Calculus based), Advanced Topics in Physics, Astronomy, Earth Science/Geoscience, Meteorology, Oceanography, Algebra Readiness, Algebra I, Algebra II and Precalculus/Trigonometry.

My undergraduate education was completed at Pennsylvania State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1983. After working in the HVAC industry as a consulting engineer, I returned to graduate school at West Chester University to complete my teaching certification in Earth Science and a Master of Education degree in Secondary Education in 1996. I first entered the teaching field in the public school setting, where I worked for four years on the east Coast before relocating to the West Coast and have been working as a high school physics/geoscience/mathematics teacher for the past fifteen years. Outside of the school setting, I have had a proposal accepted by NASA for inclusion of a project that was carried into space aboard space shuttle Endeavor for ten days during mission STS-108 in 2001. I also have organized astronomical star parties to educate interested persons about astronomy and navigating the night sky. Each year that I taught Astronomy/Earth Science, I took my students on a field trip to a major science center, including the Chabot Space and Science Center (CA), The Exploratorium (CA), Goddard Space Flight Center (MD), The Tech Museum (CA), and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum (DC) as a culminating activity for the course.

Please note the diversity of work experience that I possess, which is one of the reasons that my students are able to benefit so greatly from my teaching style. Aside from having worked as a mechanical engineer in an i

Incredible and knowledgeable physics tutor!

Philip is a gifted, patient, and amazingly helpful physics tutor. My daughter is preparing for a middle school physics class, and Philip has been instrumental in getting her more than ready for the class. He is able to break topics down into manageable pieces so that my daughter can fully understand and master the concepts. Philip understands how people learn and my daughter is really benefiting from his teaching approach. Philip is also a great communicator with parents showing us what he has covered in sessions and where they are going. I highly recommend Philip as a tutor. My daughter is flourishing under his tutelage and she loves his kind and knowledgeable approach. We look forward to having him tutor my daughter throughout the school year for her physics class. Having Philip is a huge advantage.

Plain language explanation

Philip was able to explain concepts in a simple manner which enabled our student to understand what his normal teacher was trying to teach. It made our student feel much more comfortable about the concepts.

Just what we've been looking for!

Very helpful in providing our daughter the support she needs to fill in the gaps on challenging curriculum. Awesome tutor!

Great tutor for my son

My son does not like the concept of tutoring. During his first session with Phillip, my son was very impressed. According to my son, " Phillip tells me where I may make mistakes".They have been working a lot on clearing up the concept and my child feels that he is better prepared for the test. Phillip has a lot of knowledge about the Alg2 and which concepts are confusing for the kids. My son looks forwards to tutoring session with Phillip. He will continue math tutoring session with Phillip for rest of school year.

Available around our schedule and a great help!

We had Philip tutor our son who had difficulty with Physics. He had taken it at Chico twice and received a D+ which is a passing grade but not good on transcripts, with Philips help he repeated at DVC and received an A. We were very pleased Philip really made a difference in him grasping the concepts and problem solving.

Great tutor

Philip is a great tutor, highly recommended. He helped me pass college level Astronomy and Algebra. I wouldn't have done nearly as well without his help.

Excellent AP Physics C Tutor

Philip is an outstanding tutor for AP Physics C with Calculus. His instruction combines foundational knowledge with practical examples with focus on AP Physics C exam. He is patient and gifted at making complex subjects easier. Our son got a 5 on this AP exam and could not have performed as well without guidance from Philip. We recommend him to anyone looking for a Physics tutor.

Amazing Tutor

Mr. B. was very patient in his explanations and didn't mind repeating himself until I understood the topic. He really knows his physics and provided a lot of outside/extra materials to aid in practice and studying. His explanations included a lot of real world examples, which was very important for me to really grasp the concepts. I know I wouldn't have gotten an A in my physics class at Cal had it not been for the help I received!
