Hi there! My name is Ryan, and I’m a UCLA grad with a Master’s in Statistics and a Bachelor’s in Psychology. I’ve spent the past 12+ years immersed in R programming and applied statistics helping students, researchers, and industry professionals master the quantitative and technical skills needed to achieve their goals.

Though I’m newer to Wyzant, I’ve quickly become one of the platform’s top-rated national tutors in R programming, statistics, and data science. I’ve worked with a wide range of students. From first-time stats learners at local community colleges to Harvard MBA students, PhD candidates writing dissertations, and environmental scientists working on real-world datasets. I’ve also consulted for nonprofits like the American Urological Association, Fortune 500 companies like Rocket Mortgage, and CGI. Currently, I work as a Lead Analyst at Dentsu International.

Whether you need help debugging your R code, understanding statistical concepts like regression or SEM, or just want to finally “get” your data, I bring both deep expertise and an encouraging, student-centered approach to every session. My teaching style is friendly, clear, and adaptable. I take pride in breaking down challenging topics into steps that actually make sense, and I always tailor lessons to your background and learning style.

I grew up tutoring family members and students with learning differences, so I’ve seen firsthand that everyone learns differently, and that with the right support, anyone can thrive in math and data. I love helping people build confidence and move from frustration to “I get it!”

If you’re ready to build your skills and make meaningful progress, feel free to reach out. I’d love to help you get where you’re going faster, and with less stress.

In my career I have worked with R1 research laboratories in psychopharmacology to assist with phase II and phase III clinical trials to help treat addictions to alcohol and other drugs. I have conducted survival analyses, regression, and used structural equation modeling to tease apart mediating and moderating effects from biological, genetic, epigenetic and psychological factors affecting addiction. I have also worked with the American Urological association in partnership with Jansen pharmaceutical to assist with meta analyses of initiatives aimed to improve prostate cancer treatments nationally. Here I assisted with finding the right subset of subjects to include by building complex subqueries from large clinical databases to prepare the data for analysis. Additionally, I have experience with the full development lifecycle of analytics products, which includes all tools for task scheduling, pipeline orchestration, version control management and best practices for development (unit testing etc). I applied these best practices to automate EPA reporting systems of bio-chemical data for the City of San Diego's Public Utilities Department (via CGI consultancy). Finally, I am an expert in R programming (with over a decade of experience) and have assisted Ph.D students with the statistical sections of their dissertation. This included subjects such as exploratory data analysis, descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, non-parametric methods, spatio-temporal statistics, structural-equations modeling, and data visualization.

Over the past five years I have worked with internationally recognized companies such as CGI, Dentsu International, and Rocket Mortgage. During my tenure, I have assisted with analytics, reporting automation and software development training. I have experience with the full development lifecycle of data science products, which includes all tools for task scheduling, pipeline orchestration, version control management and best practices for development (unit testing etc). I applied these techniques to build automatic reporting systems for people analytics platforms, as well automating EPA reporting of bio-chemical data for the City of San Diego's Public Utilities Department (via CGI consultancy). Additionally, I've built time series modeling platforms for Dentsu International to estimate advertising effectiveness and implemented an optimization algorithm to best allocate ad spending.

Amazing Stat Tutor who know R code like a pro

Ryan is such an amazing tutor. I hired him for a stat class at Harvard that was really hard and fast paced. Ryan was always super patient and went out of his way to create problems of his own to make sure you understood the concept. Ryan was able to explain tough concepts in a simple way and give real life examples. He also was very flexible with scheduling and even made time last minute for last minute studying. I also got my final exam results and got 99/100 even while sick.I do not think there is a better tutor that can get concepts to stick.

Smart and patient Stat and R code Tutor

As a busy mom of two that works full time who is trying to get a Masters it helped to have a tutor who is not only knowledgeable but patient. I found myself so stressed and overwhelmed with work and life that I would forget concepts and Ryan would try different ways to help me understand, learn and retain. He started doing real life example or visuals. He never got irritated or upset. It was a relieve that I found Ryan as a tutor.

It had really helped me that he was a TA for stat so also understood grading and how to write papers. I do not think there is a better tutor.

Helpful consultation

I met with Ryan for a consultation on some data I was hoping to analyze. He walked me through the way I could take it and helped me make decisions on where to take the paper. I appreciated his honesty about what he was comfortable analyzing. I'll definitely use him again in the future for some R help.
