Hi there! I am Ms. B, an empathetic educator and dedicated graduate student, currently pursuing my K-8 teaching credential as a 4th grade student teacher. I would describe myself as detail-oriented, yet efficient, cooperative, and devout to learning. It is important to me to have strong communication and develop rapport between students and guardians. I am passionate and poised to help students in K-12 make strides and achieve their goals!

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from San Diego State University in the Spring of 2025 with my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I am specialized in English and Linguistics, with my TESL certificate to teach English to Second Language Learners. Additionally, I am CPR, FirstAid, and AED certified.

Starting January of 2025, I have been an academic tutor for elementary students. Prior to that, I was a gymnastics coach for athletes between the ages of 1 and 14. Also during my undergraduate experience, I had the opportunity to spend ample time in various elementary environments. This included being a physical education teacher at Hardy Elementary, and pre-service student teaching for first, third, and fourth grade at Hancock Elementary.

ADHD

ADHD

During my undergraduate experience at San Diego State University, I received several courses on child development, educational psychology, and inclusive education, which deepened my understanding of how to support students with diverse learning needs, including ADHD. In addition, I have extensive experience working with children with ADHD and other disabilities through multiple roles in educational and recreational settings. As a pre-service student teacher, I worked closely with diverse learners in inclusive classrooms, adapting instruction and providing individualized support to meet varied attention and behavioral needs. My background as a PE coach and gymnastics/parkour instructor further strengthened my ability to engage students through movement, routine, and hands-on learning, which are strategies that are especially effective for students with ADHD.
Common Core

Common Core

Throughout my undergraduate studies and fieldwork, I gained extensive experience working with the Common Core State Standards across the different grade levels and subject areas. In my pre-service teaching placements, I designed and implemented numerous lesson plans directly aligned with Common Core standards, ensuring that learning objectives were clear, measurable, and developmentally appropriate. These assignments required me to analyze standards closely, create scaffolded instruction, and incorporate a variety of assessment strategies to support student growth. My classroom experiences gave me hands-on practice in adapting Common Core-based instruction for diverse learners, reinforcing my ability to maintain rigor while meeting individual student needs.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I have a strong background in creative writing, both academically and through my work with students. As part of my undergraduate coursework and teaching preparation, I completed multiple assignments and lesson plans centered on creative writing instruction, including narrative structure, character development, and voice. I have also integrated writing prompts and mentor texts that aligned with grade-level standards to help students build confidence and craft thoughtful, original work. My approach balances structure with freedom, helping students find joy and purpose in their writing.
Earth Science

Earth Science

During my undergraduate studies, I completed several courses in Earth Science that significantly enhanced my subject knowledge in key topics like geology, weather, and environmental science. Additionally, I have experience designing lesson plans and instructional materials, which have strengthened my ability to convey complex concepts effectively. My hands-on experience with Earth Science labs and fieldwork has given me practical insights that I incorporate into tutoring to deepen student understanding.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I graduated from San Diego State University in the Spring of 2025. I have my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, specializing in linguistics with a TESL/TEFL certificate (Teaching English to Second and Foreign Language Learners). I am currently pursuing my post-graduate student teaching certification through SDSU.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

Through my coursework and classroom experience, I have developed a strong foundation in teaching academic and personal essay writing. I’ve created and implemented lessons that guide students through the entire writing process, from thesis development and organization to editing for clarity and grammar. In my student teaching placements, I supported students in writing informative, opinion, and reflective essays aligned with grade-level standards. I emphasize structure and voice, helping students learn how to clearly express their ideas while meeting academic expectations.
Fiction Writing

Fiction Writing

I have designed and taught multiple fiction writing lessons that encourage creativity while building core storytelling skills like plot structure, character development, and setting. In both classroom and enrichment settings, I’ve helped students craft short stories through brainstorming, guided writing prompts, and peer feedback. My instruction balances imagination with technique, giving students the tools to bring their ideas to life. I also incorporate mentor texts and modeling to show how great stories are constructed.
Linguistics

Linguistics

I have a strong academic foundation in linguistics, having completed approximately ten university-level linguistics courses as part of my TESL/TEFL certification and undergraduate studies. These courses covered key topics such as phonetics, syntax, morphology, second language acquisition, and sociolinguistics, all of which have deepened my understanding of how language works and how it is learned. This knowledge directly informs my teaching approach, particularly when working with English language learners, as I’m able to identify patterns, anticipate challenges, and support language development with clarity and precision. My training allows me to teach grammar and vocabulary in a way that’s grounded in both theory and practical application.
United States History

United States History

My foundation in U.S. History began with taking AP U.S. History (APUSH) in high school, where I developed strong historical thinking skills and a deep understanding of major events, movements, and themes in American history. Since then, I’ve continued to build on that knowledge through college coursework and teaching experiences that incorporated historical content. In classroom settings, I’ve helped students analyze primary sources, explore cause-and-effect relationships, and make connections between past and present. I aim to make history engaging and relevant by encouraging critical thinking and discussion.
