Bio

For over 20 years I have tutored students preparing for both the Baby Bar and the Bar Exam in California. The students who successfully complete the assigned work have had outstanding success rates on these difficult exams. For over 20 years I have tutored students preparing for both the Baby Bar and the Bar Exam in California. The students who successfully complete the assigned work have had outstanding success rates on these difficult exams. During the same period, I have been a law professor, teaching over 10 legal subjects.

In addition, my degree in chemistry, my tutoring experience since college, and my work in medical research offer unique skills in these areas as well.

Learning is one of the most exciting things one can do in life, no matter what one's age, and I try to imbue each of my students with this idea. Learning is a lifelong journey to be savored.

In sum, I am a scientist, writer and teacher who practices law, and who loves both teaching and learning.

As a lawyer, I practiced criminal law at the appellate level. This involved analyzing intricate points of law in a number of cases that were raised and presented as potential precedents for future cases. My efforts resulted in at least one published opinion.

Grammar,

Grammar

Grammar skills are crucial to daily modern life. How one uses, or misuses, language can determine success or failure in interactions with others. For better or worse, we are judged on how we use language. English can seem daunting, but it needn't be. Whether it's writing or speaking, a small range of skills can go a long way to achieve success. As a published author in several subjects, I can help unravel the myriad difficulties that students face, and maybe make the process a bit fun.

Government & Politics

We seem to encounter government and politics almost every day, from news stories to political ads to personal experiences. Yet, how many of us really understand the underlying interconnected history and conceptual bases for this crucial subject? I try to put all of this in a context that the student can grasp easily and intuitively. And when done, I'm sure my students have a greater appreciation of not only the concepts but also their place in this aspect of their lives.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra is the student's first trip into the realm of abstract thinking. It forms the basis for all future math courses, and for the crucial activity of analytical thinking in later life. But it doesn't have to be scary or difficult. Teaching a few fundamental principles, I try to make the subject engaging, and maybe, just a bit fun.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 continues the student's trip into the realm of abstract thinking. You encounter word problems that can make the subject more engaging and relate to everyday problems in a practical context. It, along with Algebra I, forms the basis for all future math courses, and for the crucial activity of analytical thinking in later life. It doesn't have to be scary, daunting or difficult. Teaching a few fundamental principles, I try to make the subject engaging, and maybe, just a bit fun.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus has gotten a rap as being incredibly difficult. Although it is a profound subject that provides invaluable tools in lots of areas of study, it is readily accessible with the right approach. Theory is good, but problem solving is the better and the ultimate skill. I can assist in making what others would like you to believe is only for elite math geeks, and in making it readily accessible to anyone willing to learn and apply a few important concepts.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

With a degree in chemistry, and a lot of years involved in the teaching of the subject, I can make the task of learning a lot simpler and even fun and stimulating. I can show you how it is not just a matter of boring memorization, but rather seeing a bigger picture, so that concepts once learned can be applied in ways that you might not otherwise think are connected. And that is when learning becomes exciting.

Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

The thought of taking algebra frightens many students. While it is true that algebra is a new and unfamiliar subject, the steps leading to it are not that scary. I hope to prove this to you. My goal is to simplify the subject of prealgebra. Thus, less memorization, more learning. Let me show you how you can learn more while spending less time and effort in the process. In fact, a lot of the learning process includes things that you probably already know! You probably already have an intuitive feeling for the subject; you just don't realize it. Allow me to show you. And the amazing thing about this process is that it can be applied to a lot of subjects, both mathematical and otherwise. Teachers often do not try to make the LEARNING process easier than it can be. This is one of my aims. Allow me to make your math life simpler.

The SAT seems to instill a fear in students. It influences their future. It affects their choice of colleges. Yet, it actually is quite approachable. The math portion is more about reasoning than it is about memorizing. My approach is thus geared toward lowering the anxiety level that students have but needn't have. My students already typically have the skills needed to do well. I try to maximize those skills while reducing the amount of memorization needed.

What could be more wondrous or common to the human race than gazing into the night sky? We share this facet with our ancestors a million years removed from us. And we are still doing this on a grand scale, from Voyager, to Hubble to the latest Mars probes. The answers are not all in. But it is the search that compels us. Whether we realize it or not, science is all around us: when we cook, when we travel, when we look at the stars or just read a book. There are things to be learned, of course, but they are not so hard as books and teachers might make them seem. EXTRAORDINARY Teacher!!!

I’ve read that the task of an excellent teacher is to stimulate ordinary people to unusual effort and this has definitely been the end result from David’s tutoring. My son was failing and struggling with pre-calculus and needed help understanding material to get on track towards a passing grade. David came in and was able to ease his anxiety on the subject and was extremely patient with him. He took the time to explain, and identify where the confusion was as well as explain the problems in a way that was easy for my son to understand. David then gave him the fundamentals he was lacking and the encouragement he needed to be able to succeed in this subject which has produced outstanding results!! Today my son feels at ease and able to participate in class because of the skills David has taught him in this subject. We would like to THANK David for his time and teaching expertise. Out of the three tutors my son had during this season, my son has expressed that although they were all great; David’s way of teaching reminded him the most of that of his grandfather which was extremely helpful in calming his anxiety and making him feel comfortable, competent, and confident in the subject. I highly recommend David F. to any parent or student who is struggling and would like a compassionate and amazing tutor. We were beyond blessed to have found him!

David knows the black letter law

As a law student, David has been helping me write essays. He is very knowledgeable and confident in picking a side and build from it based on the black letter law. David knows the black letter law back to back. I appreciated his immense knowledge of the black letter law and challenging me to get the law concepts correctly and apply it based on the prompt of the question.
