Hello, I’m Maya. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Education, Society, and Human Development, minor in Sociology, and my Seal of Bi-fluency in Spanish. I graduated from the University of California, Riverside with high honors (magna cum laude). It was during my undergraduate studies that I bonded with my professors and communities surrounding my studies which developed not only my character, but pushed me to advocate for myself, reach out when I needed help, and go the extra mile to grasp material.
I have been a substitute teacher for the past two-years and a tutor for the past four-years! In these two years that I have been teaching, I am consistently working with 20+ students at a time, so I have developed various ways to help students understand new topics or help with their skills. I teach and work with all groups and ages, but have extensive experience with younger grades (K-6). Additionally, I have been privately tutoring for the past four-years and have assisted students in staying more organized, completing all required material, test-prep, and class grade improvement.
I like to curate learning for each student, because learning is not and should not be one size fits all. In between tutoring sessions, I like to provide feedback and practice material that students can use during the gap of not having a class so that they may continuously work on the skills learned/worked on. In this way, students can come back with it to either ask new questions or clarify topics before moving on to the next piece of material. Though I often work in large groups, I have experience with working one-to-one and prefer this style of teaching as I feel that students can then maximize the focused attention to cater to their specific needs. I love helping students learn and understand better. I am easily accessible and always provide quick responses. Feel free to reach out if you would be interested with help for any lessons or if you have any other questions!
