UC Berkeley, Bachelor of Arts
I have nearly a decade of professional experience helping students learn and excel at mathematics and chemistry. Welcome to quality instruction delivered with clarity and passion.
I have a great knack for explaining difficult concepts and problems in easy-to-understand ways. My approach focuses on the ideas that conceptual understanding and problem solving abilities are really just a matter of connecting new concepts to old and parsing complicated problems into more manageable parts. Beyond that, I believe dedicated practice and hard work creates real winners. My student typically experience dramatic improvements in their confidence, in their grades, and in their SAT and ACT test scores.

Kevin is fantastic, he is patient, encouraging, knowledgeable and fun. He is always very invested in the success of his students. My sons have both gone to Kevin for a few years now and we couldn't be more satisfied. Kevin was able to cater to our sons different abilities in math, perfectly ensuring the tutoring sessions were fun and enjoyable while also making sure they made good progress at the right pace and within their comfort levels. Kevin was instrumental in assisting my sons in scoring higher on their SAT's which no doubt played a role in them being accepted to Whittier College and UCLA. I can't recommend Kevin highly enough.
Kevin is the Best! His tutoring skills are amazing. My daughter has already shown much improvement in math sense being tutored by Kevin. She recently took a big math test and received her best score ever. Much of it to do with the help of Kevin.
I am so thankful we found Kevin. He is the perfect tutor for our daughter. Kevin is a champion for her success!
Competent, knows what he is doing, I am satisfied, says the 17 year old student and recipient of the tutoring.
Kevin has been very helpful with preparing my daughter for the ACT at the last minute so she can qualify for a better scholarship.
He should be a teacher. He explains things in an easier way to understand for not only tests but for further education. Recommend him 100%!!
Really nice guy, works with you, even gives you worksheets to help you learn. He has an office set up with a white board, so its a comfortable learning environment and he really knows his math.
Kevin is more concerned with his students' succeess than charging for every minute of his time, and that says a lot about him, in my opinion. He is also very knowledgeable about math and is very effective with his teaching techniques.
He taught me how to find the area between cross sections, find the volume, how to use natural logarithms. He also showed me new ways to approach the problem. He explained everything well and gave me extra worksheets to practice on.
Kevin knows his stuff and makes sure you really understand the concepts. I'm more confident about my ability to solve a math problem already.
Kevin has a great way of breaking down hard problems so that my children can understand and apply them. Kevin is a very thought provoking tutor that teaches in a way that my children remember
Excellent sessions so far, My Daughter's Math test scores have already improved..in only 3 sessions. ..we appreciate your methods and hardworking dedication!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
With the proper combination of dedicated practice along with guidance from an experienced coach, students can dramatically improve their ACT scores. I know what works to boost performance because I have accumulated many years of experience working for professional test-prep and tutoring companies. I have helped dozens of ACT students realize terrific improvements because, not only am I expert at teaching the exam's math content, but I am also very skilled at delivering effective score-boosting strategies and techniques.
For serious students I typically administer a diagnostic test and create a personalized, goal-oriented plan of study, complete with regularly scheduled full-length practice exams. Longer-term preparation and practice is recommended because it allows the student adequate time to master the strategies and concepts that optimize performance.
The ACT science test is more about scientific reasoning, and not so much about scientific knowledge. There is a strong emphasis on critical reading skills, data interpretation, and argument analysis. The time crunch in this section can seem unforgiving, but with enough practice and proper guidance from an experienced coach, this test, like all other standardized tests, can be hacked. I've got 8+ years of experience showing students how to crush these types of exams, and the ACT science section is no exception.
I have nearly a decade of professional experience teaching and tutoring algebra. I am highly skilled at helping students relate to algebraic concepts and methods and I have special experience in teaching effective strategies for the algebra-based content found on the ACT and SAT exams. I have taught and coached complete UC-approved algebra courses (including both algebra I and algebra II) to home-schooled students and student-athletes. If you are interested in having your child take (or retake) algebra, please contact me so we can discuss your options.
I have nearly a decade of professional experience teaching and tutoring algebra II and integrated math. More recently I have been very effective in helping students navigate the common core standards. I am highly skilled at explaining algebraic concepts and techniques and, having worked as a professional SAT and ACT math instructor, I offer unique expertise in delivering effective strategies for the algebra-based problems found on these exams. I have taught complete algebra II courses to home-schooled students, so if you are interested in having your child take or retake algebra 2 for high school credit, please contact me so we may discuss your options. I have passed all the relevant California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) in this area.
My experience with this subject has mainly focused on helping students with AP calculus, but I have also worked with many college students taking business calculus and calculus I at RCC, Cal Baptist, La Sierra, and a few other colleges. I've got lots of extra worksheets, released exam questions, practice tests, and a calculus textbook collection to help you power through this subject.
I passed the CBEST on the first attempt, and I can help you pass it too! The math portion contains multiple-choice questions that assess knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, measurement, and geometry, all areas I have extensive experience teaching. If you are worried about passing the CBEST because of the math section, please contact me because I am confident I can help you pass this thing, even if math isn't your favorite subject in the world.
Over the years I have helped scores of students with AP chemistry, honors and regular chemistry, and general chemistry at RCC and Cal Baptist (mostly pre-nursing and pre-physician assistant students). I have had terrific success preparing students for the AP exam and the SAT chemistry subject test. I've got a file cabinet filled with handouts, problem sets, practice tests, and released exam questions to help you prepare.
My interest in elementary math developed more recently after having met too many algebra and geometry students who struggle with foundation-level concepts and skills. I feel that, mostly because of the way the system works, many teachers lack expertise outside of their particular grade level and are therefore limited in their capacity to connect one topic to another in a coherent way. If your child has been struggling with common core, I can help with elementary math starting at about the 5th or 6th grade level.
I have nearly a decade of professional experience tutoring geometry and I am highly skilled at helping students relate to geometric concepts and problems. I have taught and coached complete UC-approved geometry courses to home school students and student-athletes. If you are interested in having your child take geometry for credit (or retake it for a better grade), please contact me so we can discuss your options.
If your child has been struggling with common core prealgebra, please contact me sooner rather than later because I am great at helping students at this level "connect" to math, allowing them to begin constructing the solid mathematical foundation they'll need for their future academic success. This class encompasses a diversity of concepts, but I have a long track record of helping students relate to math in ways that can transform frustrated students into happy students.
I have 8+ years of professional experience working with high school and college precalculus and trigonometry students. A strong understanding of certain topics in these classes is important for ACT and SAT exam performance and, of course, for calculus. As an experienced calculus and test-prep tutor, I know which of these concepts are most important for a student's future academic success. My library contains several popular precalculus textbooks, and I have accumulated a great number of worksheets, handouts, and formula sheets to help students effectively navigate this class.
When it comes to the standardized college entrance exams, long-term preparation and training reliably yields dramatic score improvements and maximizes each student's potential. The summer after the freshman year is a great time to begin training with the PSAT. I cannot overemphasize the importance of starting early and, since this is your child's future we're talking about, I urge you to select a highly experienced test prep expert with a long record of success.
I have taught small-group SAT math classes to well over 100 college-bound students and I have individually coached dozens more in one-on-one tutoring settings. I know what works and I know what it takes to get real results. Using an integrated approach, I am skilled at teaching the exam's math content along with effective and practical test-taking strategies. For serious college-bound students dedicated to a structured, individualized program of study, my methods have resulted in dramatic score increases. I've helped many, many students score well into the mid 700s and beyond. Longer-term preparation is ideal because it allows the student adequate time to internalize the strategies and concepts that maximize scores.
