I have taught reading and phonics (my specialties), math, social studies and science to first graders for 16 years. During my career I have also taught kindergarten, second, fifth and eighth grades, as well as English as A Second Language to Community College students. I am in my sixth year of tutoring on Wyzant's platform and have been acknowledged for being a Top 10% Tutor for 2020.

If you have a student who is struggling in elementary school, maybe I can help! And if you need some ESL tutoring, I can help you with that as well.

Please contact me if I may be of service!

I have taught first grade for 16 years in California, where phonics is a systematic scaffold to teaching children to read. Once letter/sound recognition is understood, students can learn to begin to read CVC words and they are on their way to becoming readers! Using diagnostic tools, such as the BPST, it is easy to see where students should begin their phonics learning. Whether it's with consonants, short vowels, digraphs, CVC words or blending.

BROUGHT MY DAUGHTER BACK TO GRADE LEVEL

I’ve been finding it hard to search for the right words to explain the level of peace Linda brought to our family from the moment we contacted her. No one wants to receive the dreaded message from their child’s teacher that their child needs extra help, intervention or is falling behind. It’s just the last thing a parent wants to hear. Then the panic sets in, the guilt, and all of the other unhelpful emotions! I had become frustrated with local tutoring centers because of unreasonable requirements to enter into a contract, etc. As a last ditch effort, I found Wyzant and found Linda to be extremely highly rated and recommended. I reached out and within minutes I received a message back for a consultation! Even before the initial consultation she was so supportive, non judgmental, extremely professional, organized and also empathetic and reassuring. I could go on and on about how positive my first impression was. Honestly it doesn’t even feel like virtual tutoring. She is so well prepared, organized, always on time and quite frankly the most responsive person I’ve ever dealt with!! The value for her services is incredible and I just am SO thankful we found her, it seems unbelievable or too good to be true. She has so many teaching tools, worksheets, lesson plans, and more! Linda also provided us with a practical, detailed way to help our 1st grader at home and even gave product recommendations with a link which I love. I will never forget her saying “1st grade is quite possibly the most important grade your child will ever be in. It sets the foundation for everything. It’s the turning point!” Linda is helping my child with such a life changing skill, something so vital as READING, that will take my daughter through the rest of her life. Linda is extremely patient, upbeat, positive, and encouraging which is something that was a must have for me to find in the ideal reading tutor. The whole process was simply, seamless. To sum it up my Daughter just had her regular weekly session with Linda yesterday and said “Mommy, when Ms. Linda has to turn the screen off when our session is finished, I don’t want it to end- I want to keep going!” Oh and as a fun engaging bonus, Linda has colorful sticker charts for her students and even personally sends them to the child when they get a certain amount. My Daughter cannot WAIT for her’s to come in the mail. I CANNOT RECOMMEND LINDA ENOUGH! Linda, thank you for giving me the peace to sleep at night knowing my Daughter has the consistent and regular help she needs and for being gracious as I swallowed my pride that I couldn’t do it myself. It takes a village!! Thank you for being my virtual village- I’ll never be able to show my appreciation enough.

Knowledgeable and motivating teacher

Linda has been an excellent and engaging teacher for our 5-year old daughter. Over the course of the last several months she has taught our daughter on a daily basis, training her to be a confident reader and continually challenging her in an age-appropriate manner and with a curriculum tailored to her level. Each day is a bit different with new exercises and activities so our daughter does not get bored, but keeps working to strengthen core concepts and skills. Our daughter has really progressed in her learning of many concepts and is excited for her daily lesson. Linda is patient but keeps our daughter engaged and focused on the lesson at hand and always has a vision and broader view of how she should be progressing at this stage. She worked with us to understand our expectations and goals and was great at building a curriculum around reading, math and science which we feel is very well suited for our daughter. Overall it has been a great experience working with her and we would wholeheartedly recommend her as a teacher!

Best kid teacher ever!

Linda started with my eldest problem making boy and she has completely won him. My son is a native Spanish speaker and he is receiving english & general lessons with Spanish hints. She is sharp, punctual and very PROFESSIONAL. I just couldn't be happier, thanks Linda!

Extremely helpful, caring and effective!

My daughter just had her first session with Linda today, and it went so well that my daughter is looking forward to her next session already. Linda is so knowledgable, caring, patient, kind and an excellent communicator. She even followed up with me after the session to share her thoughts, and to talk about next steps. I have been so happy with my experience so far, and would really recommend Linda to anyone!

Kind, patient and knowledgeable tutor.

Linda is an extremely experienced, kind and smart tutor who my soon-to-be first graders immediately responded to. Now, they're learning how to read! Linda is a great teacher and tutor - I highly recommend.

The greatest English tutor!

Since the school closure in March, my 6 yr-old son (not fluent in English) has been getting English lessons from Linda. Linda's lessons are always well prepared and fun. My son fell in love with her after having the first lesson. She knows how to keep him interested. Also, because she is very experienced, Linda knows exactly what my son needs to improve his English skills. I highly recommend Linda since she is the best!

most passionate, kindest, funnest tutor for my 5 years old!

My five years old daughter loves Linda! Her lessons are engaging, fun, and proper for a kindergartener to follow. My daughter laughed so hard during her lessons, and that tells a lot. Linda is calm, patient, kind, and considerate. She even waived a lesson that was missed due to wyzant's technical issues. We are grateful to have Linda as our daughter's tutor during this WFH era.
