I recently completed an intense dual certification program at La Salle University in the areas of Elementary and Special Education. In addition to the extensive course work completed at La Salle, I had classroom experiences in all four years of attendance in a variety of urban and suburban settings. A few of the highlights of my field placements included weekly team teaching in the subjects of reading and mathematics during my sophomore and junior year. Concerning reading, I taught extensive lessons with two other peers in all boys fifth grade reading classroom within an urban setting in Philadelphia over the spring of 2007. Furthermore, I instructed a co-ed fifth grade classroom with a team of five peers also in urban setting of Philadelphia over the spring of 2006. These group oriented teaching experiences were helpful in assisting me with solo student teaching throughout my senior year. I was required to take on sole control of a classroom for 13-16 weeks during both the fall and spring semesters during my final year earning my undergraduate degree. I was required to teach all subjects including math and reading. I would also like to note, that my regular education student teaching experience took place in Auckland, New Zealand where I was required and challenged to teach the metric system extensively, as well as instruct many foreign students from surrounding countries.
