About
Alice: |
|
To tutor would be an ideal way of fulfilling my great passion of teaching during the summer and throughout the close of my classroom experiences. This will give me the good fortune of continuing to be an educator, but in a very agreeable fashion.
I am a seasoned student. My graduate degree is in Curriculum and Instruction. My undergraduate degrees are in secondary education, English, and French.
I am certified to teach both French and English at the junior and senior high levels. My husband and I have three grown, married sons, and seven grandchildren who keep us on our toes in the real world.
Much of my coursework is already online, giving the student an opportunity to practice and continue learning at home. |

Alice's Experience:
Bible studies
|
My first minor was in Biblical studies. Having taught Sunday School for thirty years, Bible in the junior high Christian school, and a women's study at our church, I feel more than qualified to teach this subject. My husband was a minister for over thirty years. Together we also taught the young married couples.
I have studied and memorized the Scriptures in both English and French. I spend time daily in Bible reading and study.

ESL/ESOL
|
Since I teach both English and French at the high school level, I have experience in dissecting and organizing language lessons so that the student acquires skills through a series of increasingly difficult assignments and projects.
The majority of my experiences of teaching English have been in the public school within an urban setting. Many of my students have been learning English as their second language. My travels abroad and experiences with new immigrants to America have given me an understanding of the language learner and empathy toward their goals, aspirations, and needs.

phonics
|
My personal first lessons in reading were saturated with the phonics approach. I use this approach to teach both English and French reading skills.
Though certified in secondary education, I have tutored young children for many years. I was able to teach my granddaughter how to read this past year.
Some of my elective courses covered various approaches to teaching to read. A heavy dose of "phonics" was included in these studies.
