About David:

I have over three years experience tutoring students from a variety of backgrounds in both Western Civilization and United States History, at both college and high school levels. My main focus however is World History, concentrating primarily on the Middle East and on the global History of Islam. Not only have I completed coursework in all of the above, but I have also studied South & Central Asian, North & West African, and Latin American History, as well as Native North American (Indian/First Nations) History. I am a native English speaker who is conversational in German, and who has a working knowledge of Latin, Arabic and Spanish.

More On David's Subjects:

  • religion

Religion has always been an interest of mine. Raised Christian, as an adult I branched out to study a variety of faiths. One of my undergraduate majors was in Religion, with a minor in Islamic Studies, and I have read and written most extensively on Islam. My greatest areas of expertise are Ismaili Shiism, Sufism, Islamic Law, and Modern Political Islam. While working on my Master's in World History I was fortunate to be able to focus on the history of the Middle East and North Africa, as well as the histories of Muslim communities in South and East Asia and North America. I have also taken classes on various aspects of Hinduism, Christianity and ancient Near Eastern/ Mediterranean religions, and am well-read on a variety of other beliefs as well.
