I have been teaching science for the past eight years. I teach because I enjoy helping students overcome their academic challenges and gain an appreciation and deeper understanding of science. I especially enjoy working with students one-on-one so I have the opportunity to tailor the lesson or explanation to a student's own strengths and make it relevant to their background. By connecting the lesson to a student's experiences or presenting engaging learning opportunities, I have been successful in helping student's master new concepts and apply their knowledge correctly.
Currently, I teach AP chemistry and honors-level chemistry in the DC area. I have a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Master's degree in Chemical and Life Sciences both from the University of Maryland. I have been teaching science for the past eight years. My daughter is much more confident with her grasp of her chemistry lessons after being tutored by Brian. He seems very patient and clear in explaining the material to her. She is doing well on her quizzes and tests since starting with Brian. Brian is very responsive to scheduling requests and is also very flexible.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
