ACT I have extensive experience in tutoring for the language and reading portions of all norm referenced standardized tests. My students score quite well. I have received specific continuing education training, beyond my teacher certification, which focused specifically on test preparation. elementary (k-6th) I am a certified teacher with over 10 years experience. I work with students in all grade levels and have considerable experience in developing curriculum to meet the needs of each student. My students consistently excel on standardized tests and develop a love for learning. phonics As a certified teacher I have considerable experience in providing phonics instruction to both the early reader and those older students struggling to master reading skills. I am familiar with a wide range of techniques and curriculum materials. piano I am a state certified teacher with experience in teaching music to young children. I studied piano for over 8 years and have taught basic skills to children from Pre-K through high school. I believe that music instruction is of enormous benefit to all children and strive to help them develop a life long love of music. special needs Professionally, I find my work with special needs students to be deeply rewarding. I have extensive experience working with special needs students both in the classroom and in individual tutoring. I continue to receive training in the field and have sound expertise in the area of dyslexia instruction. I attend the available conferences hosted by Region IV and have had the opportunity to meet many leaders in the field of reading. My post-graduate studies included course work in special education, and I have also worked closely with a number of local experts in the field. I have attended a number of school conferences with my student's parents to act as an advocate and request specific services from the child's school. study skills Teaching my students how to learn is my most important mission. As both a teacher and a librarian, I am able to offer my students tools for greater success in all subject areas. Many students benefit from learning basic organizational skills and time management habits that will serve them throughout their academic careers. My students become excellent researchers with a knowledge of not only "facts" but where and how to find reliable information. Teaching the basic skills to write a successful research paper can be made fun as well as instructive. My students excel in using the study skills I provide.
