Hello, my name is Abby! I am a recent graduate of Rice University with my Bachelor of Science in Biosciences. In my future, I hope to become a teaching professor as I really enjoy sharing my love of learning with others! I have many years of experience as a teaching assistant at Rice, including supporting students in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry. As a teaching assistant, I not only gained extensive experience working with students, but also pedagogical teaching training.
As such, my teaching style is very student-focused. We will work together to identify a student's goals and gaps in understanding, and then make a plan to reach those goals together. My goal as a tutor is to break down concepts in an understandable manner, while also encouraging students to lead our sessions. I hope to empower each student to be able to evaluate their own areas for growth - whether that be areas to improve conceptual understanding, how to develop study strategies, or how to put this into practice on test day. Through our tutoring sessions, my goal is that each student can not only become more confident in the subject matter of their class, but also develop transferable strategies catered to their own learning style that can be carried over into other courses!
I am equipped to support both high school and college biology and chemistry courses, including Introductory Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. To ensure that I can prepare well and make the most out of our sessions, I kindly ask that all lessons are scheduled and relevant practice problems/course materials are at least 24 hours in advance. I love building meaningful relationships with students, and to provide the highest quality of support, I prioritize working with students long-term throughout their courses.
