I have a great love for learning, which is why I earned a PhD in biology. I've completed more than 80 hours of tutoring with a variety of students. My mission is to meet each student's tutoring needs, so I am always learning new things about my subject areas and study skills. I've written several WyzAnt blog posts that offer my advice and perspective on learning science; feel free to check them out!
I earned a PhD in neuroscience (Northwestern University, 2009), and I have ten years of research experience. My areas of expertise are molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, and general chemistry. I majored in chemistry in college and love the challenge of that subject. I've taught and worked with students at many levels, including high school, undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. Working with students one-on-one or in small groups is my favorite way to teach.
I have a passion for writing and good communication. I have honed my writing skills in a variety of media, including science publications, presentations, blogging, and grant-writing. If you'd like to improve your non-fiction writing skills, I'd love to work with you.
My teaching philosophy is that a good teacher helps a student learn how to teach herself. In a technologically advanced society such as ours, scientific literacy is an essential skill for making informed decisions. I strive to inspire and demonstrate scientific literacy and lifelong learning.
