I am an experienced tutor teaching subjects like physics, calculus, algebra and even guitar. I am an aerospace engineer and I currently work for a helicopter company. Unfortunately my availability is more limited than previously, however I will take on a few students who would like to use my expertise. I have knowledge in many areas of academics and engineering and I am still very interested in teaching and tutoring. This mainly stems from my first teaching experience back when I was in college. I took part in this program where students from my university taught a group of public school children how to make a model rocket and how it worked. I remember I got the chance to instruct a small group of children on the names of all the parts of the rocket and a basic explanation of how they functioned. It was amazing to see how excited these kids were to learn about science and now, reflecting on this experience, I see the impact I can have on people directly.
My passion for math and science has given me more than expertise in those subjects, but also a strong analytical mind that is essential to success and growth in life. I am finding more and more as I get older that critical thinking is rarely taught and greatly needed. I feel that getting experience teaching students one on one is the best way for me to have an immediate impact. This will especially help to personalize the teaching experience and is an effective way to create a trusting relationship. I am especially personable and I know I have the ability to inspire students to have success beyond their expectations especially with the creative method I use for teaching.
I believe that the best approach for teaching is to help students conceptualize some seemingly abstract topics in these subjects. Most of the time people get hung up on the language or complex symbols used in math and science when really the key to understanding is to be able to look beyond those things and visualize something physical. I promote using some imagination when looking at these topics, especially in physics. When someone can understand how a concept is working then they can apply it to solve a whole range of problems and most memorization will be unnecessary. This approach will help aid students to achieve a higher understanding of these subjects and it will promote critical thinking. Let me show you!
