Hi Students,

My name is Theresa, and I am a deaf sign language teacher. I am also a former elementary and middle school teacher to deaf and hard of hearing students. I am employed as the Founder and Director of "Signing Basics" an agency that specializes in teaching private and group sign language lessons. In addition, I have a Masters Degree in Leadership, and I am an experienced Professor of Deaf Studies at the college level.

I love teaching ASL, and I enjoy watching my students have an "Aha" moment when they finally get the hang of it. Learning ASL is not as difficult as it seems sometimes, the most difficult part of learning ASL skills is in remembering that signing is not English but rather conceptual and visual. I travel to the following cities: Boston MA, Springfield MA, New York City, Washington DC and Baltimore MD.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Sign Language

I am a deaf sign language teacher and former teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. I am currently the Founder and Director of an agency that specializes in teaching American Sign Language. In addition, I hold a Masters Degree in Leadership, and I am an experienced Professor of Deaf Studies at the college level.

I coach every age and ability level. From beginning ABC’s to intense tutoring for the more advanced signer. Together with the student, I create a teaching plan that is consistent with their current signing level. This translates into specialized attention for fast and fun results.

Each session includes: Direct, one on one teaching time, handouts, and homework assignments that lead to the introduction of the next lesson. Books are sold separately.

In addition to these lessons, I offer specialized classes and workshops for religious interpreters.
