I believe one of my greatest strengths as a tutor is my individualized approach to instruction, whereby I assess my student's current abilities, target specific areas of instruction, and develop lessons that specifically address individual needs and interests. I select or create materials that are appropriately leveled for each student and use techniques of guided instruction and independent practice that are effective in meeting their individual needs.
I believe that learning best occurs when students are challenged with tasks that refer to skills and knowledge just beyond their current level of mastery. This philosophy guides my planning and instructional delivery, and keeps my students interested, challenged, confident, and learning. I look forward to an opportunity to tutor you or your child in reading, writing, English, test… Read more

We have had Janet for over a month now, and our sessions have all been very productive. My child looks forward to meeting with her, for she is very patient and thorough. Janet present her tutorial instructions with ease and reading is becoming more enjoyable for us. After each tutorial session, we receive a summary of what the lesson incorporated and the effort which our child put forth. We are looking forward to continuing with Janet with homework assignment tutorials as school moves forward. Thanks Janet!
Janet is enthusiastic, engaging, and friendly. Her approach to our child with ADD is very patient and she does well gently but effectively redirecting him and keeping him on task. She is organized and has good tricks to make certain elements of the school work more manageable. We are very pleased.
Janet tutored my 7 year old daughter. She was always punctual and always came prepared for her lesson. My daughter loved having Janet come over. Even when my daughter was overly excited during one session, Janet kept her cool and continued on with the lesson. If the need arises again, I will definitely use Janet's tutoring services again! Highly recommend!
Thanks so much for providing this feedback. It was a pleasure to work with your daughter!
Janet was a great help to me in writing my final research papers for my college courses. She helped me revise and edit my writing to make it more clear and concise and found errors in grammar and showed me how to correct them. She was easy to work with, very competent in writing, and best of all, helped me to earn A's on all of my papers. In addition, she showed great patience without wavering at times when I was struggling to meet deadlines. Her expertise surpasses previous tutors I've worked with.
Thank you very much.
My son was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism. Since he was 3, we have worked with a slew of tutors, and Janet is one of the best by far. Usually, I end up ending the relationship due to limited results. We have worked with Janet for over a year and could not be happier. She earned the trust of our son, and a result has transformed him from a highly reluctant reader to a highly motivated reader. I almost fainted the day my son independently asked me to check a book out from the library for him. Janet has an uncanny knack for connecting with her students in a way that engages them in learning in a customized way. I have watched my child struggle with reading comprehension since he could read, to now watch him read with comprehension and excitement is priceless. He has really made progress in reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, and vocabulary this year. I can't thank Janet enough for the impact she has made with our son. She is a hidden gem.
Thank you, Najah. It has been a privilege to work with your son. I have really enjoyed watching him develop as a reader during this school year!
My son has been tutored for over two years by Janet D. He made a connection and felt understood right away because she listens to him and really works hard to individualize her tutoring to fit his needs. She took him outside when he was six to write numbers in colored chalk; now they play hangman and Scholastic board games. He thinks tutoring is fun! She understands how to make reading and writing fun and he has made tremendous strides even though he has ADHD and is dyslexic, he is reading at grade level. She chooses books to bring for him to read that are right on target to build skills and motivate him to do his very best. She is always punctual and professional. I rely on her experience to identify academic strengths and weaknesses and give me feedback to support and encourage my son. She productively engages my ADHD son for a full hour even after a long day at school. I have been extremely happy and so has my son with her tutoring services. We highly recommend Janet D.
Thank you so much for submitting your positive comments. It has been a pleasure working with your son and watching him mature so much, both academically and socially, over the years!
Thanks for your patience and great teaching skills. Both children are getting so much more out of the lessons with you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
