I am a qualified English language teacher with experience working with students from a variety of language backgrounds.
I have a master's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language and six years of teaching experience at a university in the Middle East. I taught private lessons to Germans in Chattanooga, Tennessee with Volkswagen for a year, tailoring lessons to individual needs and wishes. My strengths are in grammar, writing, and listening skills. I believe that listening is foundational for all other language skills, and I like to use authentic materials with my students and involve them in the learning process as much as possible.
My bachelor's degree is in elementary education, and I have done private tutoring for elementary and middle school students in Math and Reading. Math was my strongest subject in school, and classmates often came to me for help because I was able to explain concepts in an understandable way.
I have a flexible approach to teaching and tutoring. My goal is to meet the student's needs and desires and to involve the student as much as possible. I like to challenge students to not only get the right answer but also to understand why it is the correct answer. I'm a "big picture" person who tends to focus on general principles that can be applied in multiple situations.
I enjoy helping others succeed. I see my role as a cheerleader, encouraging students to press on and not to put themselves down or give up and quit. I'm also a problem solver who likes the challenge of finding ways to help students overcome obstacles that hinder their success. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals.
