Hello!
My name is Steve, and I am a self-taught guitarist, trained drummer and bass player, and self-taught Spanish speaker from North Carolina. I graduated last year from UNC-Chapel Hill and am now living in Washington, DC!
I love teaching, assisting, and sharing my exuberance for all things creative, especially music, math and language. I have been playing music for over ten years, and have a background in music theory and symphonic orchestra. However, I play and write every kind of music from jazz to funk to rock and roll, indie, and hip hop, and I want to teach you or your kid how to play any of their favorite songs. I scored a 1580 (missed 2 questions) on my math SAT and am still comfortable tutoring algebra and geometry. And I learned Spanish from movies, internet programs, music and from just talking to people!
As you may be able to tell from the way I learned, my teaching style is not formulaic or curriculum-based. I want my students to start with what interests them, and then I like to broaden their knowledge and understanding from there. I want them to feel and comprehend and enjoy what they learn, not just memorize it.
The best way to do this is one-on-one, hands-on tutoring. I am flexible and can change my approach depending on the student's needs.
I look forward to hearing from you!
