WyzAnt has live people to talk to, should you call in about an issue! That's been very helpful to me as a fairly new tutor, when I had a few topics in dealing with students that seemed to fall outside the the FAQ set of answers, or frankly I thought the topic wouldn't be covered and so I didn't look there. The several reps answering the phone are very easy to talk to, easily understand the issues I've raised, and come up with practical solutions.

My tutoring experience with Wyzant has been seamless and better organized than I could have accomplish without the organization's help. Despite having run a language school myself for nearly 5 years, I have found that working freelance has many pitfalls including enforcing cancellation policies, keeping track of billing, and payment information for taxes at end of year. Working with Wyzant allows me to accept credit cards, basically, and be assured that payment will be forthcoming on a regular schedule. In addition, the communication between student and tutor is greatly enhanced by the online session reports which also help me to keep track of what my student and I have done together. Finally, the staff at Wyzant is intelligent, helpful and responsive. I have recommended other teachers to Wyzant with the knowledge that their experience will undoubtedly be as consistently good quality as my own has been. Many thanks!

The website is good

The website is easy to use. The payments are made in a timely fashion. The two tutoring jobs I've had so far have been quality clients and we have worked well together. I think the payment plans deter many potential tutoring jobs.

Excellent for Tutors and Students

I started with WyzAnt 13 months ago and they have provided me with many tutoring opportunities. Based on over 600 hours of tutoring through WyzAnt, I strongly recommend WyzAnt to anyone interested in tutoring and to anyone in need of a tutor. For tutors, they have excellent marketing and administrative skills. They handle all the billing and allow you to focus more on tutoring. For students, they certify tutors, provide student feedback on the tutors, display background information on tutors and courses, safely and reliably handle billing, etc. WyzAnt is an excellent alternative for both tutors and students.

Easy To Use - No Billing Hassles

One of my favorite features of using WyzAnt is the fact that they take caring of all the billing. I no longer have to worry about preparing invoices, collecting pass due amounts or making adjustments to accounts. WyzAnt takes care of it all and all I have to do is just enter the time and date of the tutor sessions. I have more time to focus on my student lessons plans. Customer service has been great. Representatives have been polite and helpful.

How to Make Uploading Videos Easy For Your Tutors

You've done a good jobs mapping out most of the information tutors need. But when it comes to uploading videos the site needs to be improved. This is what you need to tell your tutors: -The video file formats accepted: (i.e. .AVI,.MPEG4,.WMV .FLV ) -The size it must be under: 100MB (BEFORE THEY LOAD THE VIDEO- not at the moment they load the video) - How to compress their videos if needed: Open and resave in Windows Live Movie Maker, use http://www.youconvertit.com , etc. Telling your tutors that the rules for YouTube apply is not helpful. Especially since YouTube accepts a larger file size than Wyzant.

Positive Experience

I have been with Wyzant for a few weeks, and it has been a very positive experience. Getting my first students took about three weeks, but I found with determination and continued responses to e-mails I was able to pick up four students in one week. The fourth student declined after the first session because he was unwilling to do the work required to get the wanted grade. This was much to the consternation of the parents; but you can't force someone to learn. Since then I have picked up one more student, which is about all I can handle right now. I have seen the students, and especially parents, really appreciate the effort to help their children improve and once a student/teacher rapport is developed it turns out to be a lot of fun for both parties. The important things are be flexible in your teaching style, be adaptable to the students/parents desires and KNOW YOUR SUBJECTS. Few things will turn off a student faster than trying to talk around a topic the tutor is not thoroughly familiar with. The only recommendation I would have is to make the subject tests longer with more questions from a master question file and put a time limit on the test. This would allow tutors to retake tests later without seeing the same questions again and ensure more thorough topic mastery.
