I am very pleased with my experience with WyzAnt. I have found the website to be easy to navigate. I love being able to set my own rate and WyzAnt finds the students for me. I have met great families and will continue to tell people about this service.
Ever read a testimonial for a service or product? Read enough of them and you know exactly what is going to be said: repetitive praise. Yes, it may be packaged differently - it could be direct, it could be flowery, it could be formal, and it could be informal. But in the end, it is the same old thing. <br /> <br /> So, imagine my initial reaction when Andrew asked me to write a few words in support of Wyzant? It was simply: I don't think so. <br /> <br /> But then a few days passed. Something was gnawing at the back of my mind. It caused my creative juices to flow and the writer's block I had been suffering from for over two months dissipated. After writing four new flash fiction pieces, I realized that I had to write the testimonial Andrew requested. <br /> <br /> Tutoring has always been both a source of personal satisfaction and additional income for me. Tutoring comes natural to me, as many of my teachers, peers, and family have realized. I had my first paid tutoring job during the fifth grade. I tutored an uncle in English. He gave me $10 dollars for three hours of intense study. Oh and the ice cream was nice too. <br /> <br /> In the thirty five years since that first experience, I have been hired as tutor for many areas. I have tutored in language arts, French, math, science, and Spanish. But my the most lucrative area and my passion has been chess. I actually made a living from my chess tutoring for 10 years. That being the case, I had to learn how to keep accurate records, how to market my services, price my services, and maintain a strong business model. <br /> <br /> I took a break from tutoring in order to earn my K-9 Teaching Certification with a Bilingual endorsement in the state of Illinois. Instead I ended up graduating with a Bachelors in Liberal Arts and Science with minors in Education, Spanish, and writing due to my getting married, buying a house, and having to begin earning an income again. <br /> <br /> And that's where I found Wyzant. While looking for additional source of income, I decided to look for more tutoring opportunities. As I had stopped tutoring for two years, I figured I could find a company to work for that would take care of most, if not all of the things that I found tedious. Doing a Google search, Wyzant caught my eye. <br /> <br /> I took the two hours I needed to sign up as a tutor. I took all the qualifying exams, wrote the necessary qualifying essays, and created my WyzAntProfile. And I sat back and waited for the clients to come in - even though Wyzant warned me that it may take time. Time it did take. It was two months before I had my first client through them. I now have four clients and am receiving prospective client notifications of five per week on average. <br /> <br /> The things I like about Wyzant are easily listed: <br /> <br /> 1. Convienence <br /> 2. Accuracy <br /> 3. Timeliness <br /> 4. Marketing <br /> 5. Fairness of compensation <br /> <br /> Being a Web-base business, Wyzant is easy to use to keep records of lessons, keep track of student progress, and to keep record of income earned. The information is always accurate and we receive information, payment, new prospects in a timely manner. The marketing is excellent: on any given day I can Google for tutor in Bolingbrook, IL and I am listed in the top five results. And on top of all that, Wyzant's keeps a relatively small percentage of any fees earned by me. And even better that percentage shrinks over time as I complete more lessons. Oh, and they just introduced direct deposit! <br /> <br /> Overall my experience with Wyzant has been positive. I would recommend any tutor to at least take the time to try working with Wyzant and see if they make a good fit. I don't think you would regret it. <br />
Great people and excellent referals
I have been very happy with my clients through this service and feel safe going to student's homes. I have been listed on several other sites, but only get my clients through WyzAnt no matter where I have lived. I have been working steady and have a lot of clients to choose from. I've never had a better second job!
Even as a graduate, finding a job in this economy is difficult. I've struggled since high school to maintain a lifestyle that allows me to actually enjoy life and make the money I need to pay bills. Wyzant has finally given that to me. I can now choose my schedule for a second job and enjoy spending time with my friends and family at any convenience, and not just that of my employer. Thank you Wyzant for allowing me to do what I love best, both professionally and personally!
I had previously worked as a Math and Physics tutor in Los Angeles before joining Wyzant. The students I tutored were primarily College and high school students. Wyzant has since plunged me into a network of students that is varied, academically challenging and yet rewarding; From the UCLA Alumni aiming at Vet School to the professional paralegal seeking a promotion; From the MBA candidate in Glendale to the Public Servant in South Gate. I have witnessed students thirst for understanding in Math and Physics. This has opened a new academic and professional horizon for me and other dedicated Wyzant tutors in Los Angeles. I am definitely happy to be a part of the Wyzant experience. They value your knowledge and independence.
I have been impressed with the professionalism of WyzAnt. With such a large number of tutors nationwide, the company still takes a keen interest in making sure things run smoothly. Working with WyzAnt has been a great experience overall. I am incredibly grateful to have found so many great English, ESL, Language Arts, Spanish, Proofreading and Test Preparation students through WyzAnt. Now, if only I could find some students in Anthropology, my college major and a subject I love tutoring, the experience would be complete! My students range from a visiting PhD. scholar at Stanford, to college and high school English, ESL, Spanish, and SAT students, to a 3rd grader in my hometown of Pacifica, and they have all been wonderful to work with. The WyzAnt website is generally easy to use and is a great tool for attracting new students. WyzAnt's office staff are friendly, very competent, and a pleasure to deal with. I have never had any 'customer service' issues with WyzAnt. It's amazing how smoothly it runs. There are only two things I'd like to see improved - the commission rate and the rewards points system. I'd like to be able to move to a higher commission rate more rapidly and would like to see the rewards points system expanded to give tutors points for high student ratings, such as I have, and for productivity. I have completed 200+ hours with WyzAnt and look forward to many more.
I have been a tutor for the last 7 years. During this period, I have experienced many ups and downs of this field. It is indeed a great experience to be part of the WyzAnt team. Here are a few key points that distinguish WyzAnt from others: 1) Their selection process ensures that only qualified tutors are on their panel, which in turn ensures quality. 2) Their way of communication is excellent. As soon as there is an interested student, it is published on web page and email is sent to the tutors in that area. If the student has sent any email to the tutor through the website, the tutor is informed via email immediately. In the email, it is clear whether WyzAnt has billing information or not. If billing information is there, we can exchange our phone number to make the communication fast. In today’s fast world, this quick communication makes a lot of difference and distinguishes WyzAnt from other websites. 3) Their method of payment is very good. I was really impressed when I received my first payment on the date specified without any reminders. It is really awesome when one gets his/her due payment. The best part is when they released the payment, I got a very prompt email stating “your payment is on the way.”. 4) Their different schemes to motivate the tutors are really excellent. It really motivates me to do better and better day-by-day. 5) Last but not least, I want to say that WyzAnt is indeed a vibrant team of tutors and coordinators. I feel proud of myself to be part of it.
My experience with students has been a very positive one. I like the fact I can choose my own hours and decide when I want to work. The payment system and entering of lessons into the system is great. I also like the fact that students can search for me and contact me if they are interested in my tutoring services. So, far the experience has been a positive one and I look forward to more lessons.
