My experience with WyzAnt is very positive. The students that I have worked with are a mixed group, of course. Most students can get back into focus and others need more time to become better students again. It is usually a student that gets overwhelmed with school and needs to get a restart that needs some tutoring. After a restart most students get serious and then no longer need a lot of help. This increase in activity directed at school and school problems causes a wonderful new beginning and a much better student.
Wyzant has been a great help in increasing my number of students. The system works very well and is painless. Between finding students through Wyzant on our own by searching for local potential clients who are looking for tutoring services such as those we can provide, and through being directly contacted by those parents who find our profiles and think we'd be a good fit, Wyzant allows us two great avenues for adding to our student roster. Also, we do not need to deal with the financial end of things, as Wyzant takes care of all payment issues. The tests we take to qualify to tutor specific subjects are well-grounded, and fun for those of us who actually enjoy taking tests. Plus the fact we can work with Wyzant along with whatever other jobs and/or tutoring we have, and we can set our own schedules regarding availability and how far we are willing to drive, makes this a perfect situation for anyone who enjoys working one-on-one with students and essentially wants to be his or her own 'boss'.
Excellent Resource!
I joined WyzAnt during mid-2014. On the tutor side of things, the dashboard and tools at disposal for tutors is about as much as a tutor can ask for. Recent changes have also made the digital side of things more seamless. For students, the service itself can be a wonderful base or resource with which they can find tutors they like meeting with and augment their own study plans with outside help or reference. All in all, I find that my students are extremely satisfied, largely in part, due to the fluidity of the process as well as access to sincere, honest reviews and ratings. This kind of transparency tends to lead inevitably to high quality tutors actually finding the right fit. The flexibility of meeting in person or online helps make improvement a work in progress, rather than an all-or-nothing gamble. School itself is based on consistent improvement, so being able to identify the right tutor and carry out a simple plan of action with all the little things taken care of is the most powerful part of the WyzAnt service. I would recommend using WyzAnt to anyone looking to move in the right direction academically!
Bookkeeping is easy
The best part about being involved with Wyzant is that all I have to do is enter my hours after I tutor and Wyzant does the collection and sends me payment. One of the worst things about tutoring is collecting for lessons. A tutor has his or her head on creatively presenting the material. It is an entirely different part of the brain, apparently, that focuses on charging for a lesson and collecting money. I don't want to negotiate a fee, keep track of amounts owed, play the tough guy, or accept payment. Wyzant allows me to stay fully in the role of helpful teacher. Thanks.
Excellent Overall Service
Although only registered with WyzAnt since June, 2011, I am thoroughly pleased with the overall excellence of the website (especially the automated "New Opportunities" e-mails based on one's subject areas & radius area parameters), customer service, and the option to "View New Jobs." The "View New Jobs" option is an extremely valuable feature, particularly for me since the other (2)tutoring/coaching businesses with whom I am registered do not have this feature. Even though my 1st student was a short-term contract, I made the connection (10) days after registering. For me, that was a quick & great turnaround! I look forward to a long-term & successful experience with WyzAnt. :o)
Of all the tutoring companies that I have worked with, WyzAnt has proven to be the most reliable in terms of student referrals and also the most rewarding as to the nature of those assignments. I have enjoyed working with all my WyzAnt students and feel that I have been successful at helping them learn Latin and Greek. Not a small matter, also, is their helpful and dependable payroll system, now made even better with their daily payment schedule.
I would just like to summarize how the opportunity to tutor a student one on one can significantly make a difference not only in learning basic skills, but making a significant difference in the student's attitude toward learning. John (not real name) has had a difficult year. He has had some learning issues and requires more attention than can be given in a regular classroom. The attention goes beyond basic skills, but really centers on positive reinforcement, immediate success, encouragement, and establishing confidence. These are all things we talk about in education, but by tutoring for WyzAnt, I have seen how powerful it can be in a one to one setting. John told me he doesn't have a good outlook for the remainder of the year. His teachers have more or less conceded, at least in his mind, that this year will not be a success. I have found in most of our one on one sessions, we have talked more about and modeled learning from mistakes, building on success in small parts, and constantly reinforcing good effort. What I have seen happen is that John feels more confident about what he is doing and focuses less on what he can't do. The specific curriculum gives him a better chance of success and that success is leading to more success. Our high point came during our last session. John had a smile on his face as he was getting his spelling correct, answering questions, and not afraid when something was not correct. It was such a dramatic change in such a short time! It was simply the consistent opportunity to get one on one attention and focus on the positive. At the end of the last lesson, he said "This is really cool" and shook my hand. It's not that anyone really was "cool", just that this program can help people who really need it, not only with the subject matter but with building self-esteem and an interest in learning as well.
Since I signed up with WyzAnt, I have received quite a few tutoring inquiries. I am currently still working with one of these students, which is an excellent experience indeed! It has definitely been a very positive experience and I'm so happy that I am one of the WyzAnt tutors! This company is of high quality and very professional.
I have found the WyzAnt website very easy to navigate! Being a beginning member, I appreciate the rapid response time from the WyzAnt team. Although this time of year is slow, I have not gained any students yet. However, through utilizing the various marketing ideas, I feel confident that I will soon gain students. Thank you WyzAnt! I signed up for WyzAnt wondering if I would find anyone looking for the specific tutoring I was qualified to teach. Within the first week I found my first student and it was worked out better than I could have imagined. I have enjoyed the experience tremendously and have recommended WyzAnt to friends and family for both tutoring and to be tutored. WyzAnt takes all the guesswork out of dealing with students and scheduling and allows me to be the most efficient doing what I should be doing - tutoring!
Really Great Arrangement
I have been tutoring on WyzAnt for nearly a year and am now well over 100 hours into the experience. The website is simple and effective and indeed so much so that I have never actually had occasion to speak to anyone at WyzAnt! Everything works online pretty much perfectly. WyzAnt certainly will give you a stream of interested students (not all of whom ultimately will sign on with you for reasons you may never find out) but you certainly don't have to waste time seeking them out. And, as most tutors here note, WyzAnt deals promptly and accurately with all the payments so that you don't even have to discuss money with the students, much less chase them for payment. The service does feel a little expensive, particularly at the start until you get your percentage raised a bit, but really you get a lot of service for the money. Overall, I am very pleased to be a WyzAnt tutor and would certainly recommend WyzAnt to anyone wanting to get into the tutoring business or who is looking for a tutor.
