USMLE practice question. Oncology, ID, Neurologu

Let’s leave this question for non-experts and those who will be taking the test. Btw my mothers case long ago.

A 42 year-old female was eating with her family when she had a grand mal seizure.

MRI demonstrated a small ring enhancing lesion in the parietal lobe. No hx medical problems. FH - negative except father died of a glioblastoma multiforme aged 70. Last travel out of the United States was 1 years ago to Mexico.

Which of the following is not true?

A: In immunocompetent hosts pyogenic abscesses or primary or metastatic brain tumors would be in the top differential

B. Eating poorly cooked pork could cause this lesion

C. Toxoplasmosis and lymphomas would be among top differentials in the immunocompromised host

D. A demyelinating disorder could present as this lesion

no takers? answer B. eating undercooked pork. This can cause taeniasis,(T. Solium) from eating cysts in meat which develop into worms in intestine. Generally asymptomatic. Cysticercosis is caused by eating/drinking anything contaminated by feces and eggs. these develo int cysts, usually in muscle, usually also asymptomatic but can go brain- Neurocysticercosis. Very common Mexico/Central/South America and SE Asia. Most common cause seizures worldwide. Can present long after initial infection.All other statements true. Physicians thought this was her diagnosis. Subsequently diagnosed Glioblastoma Multiforme, most common malignant brain tumor adult. Average survival little over a year even with surgery, chemo, radiation.
