Financial planners/advisors come from various backgrounds and all walks of life. You do not need a degree in finance or an MBA to be successful in this profession. The Securities Industries Essentials (SIE) exam tests your knowledge of basic securities, including financial products and their risks, industry market structure, and regulatory agencies. The SIE is a prerequisite for the Series 7. Association with a firm is not required to take the SIE, and your results are valid for four years.
