Fraction problem

Angela has a sack containing 60 chocolate coins.She gives 1/3 of the coins to Pam. She gives 3/8 of the remaining coins to Max. Shethen gives 3/5 of the remaining coins to Dexter. How many coins does Angela Have left? Any help I would appreciate it. Thanks

The "problem" is that information is given in terms of what she gives away, yet the question is how many does she have. So we shall change the information to what she has.

After Pam she has 40 (2/3 of 60)

After Max she has 25 (5/8 of 40)

After Dexter she has 10 (2/5 of 25)

Hi Ignacio!

You have 60 total coins...this problem gives you all of your fractions with different denominators so you can't subtract...have you tried changing them all to a common denominator? The easiest way is to multiply the 3 numbers, so 3.5.8 =

For example, if I had 6 apples, and I took away 1/3 and 1/2, how many would l have left?

But 1/3 = 2/6 and 1/2 = 3/6 ...6 = 36/6, SO 36/6 - 2/6 - 3/6 = 31/6
