apparently this is your problem: 5+3(42-12)divided by 9

the question is, where does the division take place; is all of 5+3(42-12) to be divided by 9, or just the product 3(30)?

 

You need to clarify this...it's an order-of-operations situation (PEMDAS) but it's not presented clearly.
