The equation 2x + x - 3 = 0 has one solution, x = 1. That happens to be one solution to the equation 2x2 + x - 3 = 0. You can check that by substituting 1 in for x. Knowing that, we can factor the second equation to get:
(x - 1)(2x + 3) = 0
So, the other solution is x = -3/2.

Yes, it's entirely likely that the student meant to type the same equation in the subject as in the question. Either way, the question is incomplete. Mohammed asked for clarification and didn't get any response. Seeing the factorization of the quadratic (if it's at least typed correctly) will be of some value. If that doesn't answer it for her, hopefully she'll clarify or repost a complete question.
