3(x - 1/3)^2 - 4 and 1/3 = 0

The first time you solved it, you solved it with a 4 instead of 4 and 1/3.

The solution method is to isolate the quadratic form on the left hand sde

 

3(x - 1/3)² =   (4 and 1/3)  =  13/3

Next divide each side by 3

(x - 1/3)²  =  13/9            now take square root of both sides

 

x -1/3 =  + sqrt(13)/3    or  -  sqrt(13)/3     so  the two answers are:

 

x =   1/3 +  sqrt(13) /3     and   x = 1/3 - sqrt(13)/3

 

Both of these check out in the original equation so we are done.
