Chicago, Illinois – February 3, 2020 – Wyzant, the leading online marketplace for tutoring, is quickly approaching an unprecedented milestone. By the end of February, one student will have the honor of completing the 10 millionth hour of learning facilitated by Wyzant. In celebration, this student will be given a full year’s worth of lessons for free, to study subjects of their choice.

The winner will be notified by e-mail, and an announcement and interview will be posted on the Wyzant website shortly after. More information on the program can be found at wyzant.com/10million.

“We started Wyzant in 2005 to empower more people to benefit from the incredible impact of personalized learning. Over the years, we’ve been humbled by the life-changing outcomes achieved by our students and tutors,” said Andrew Geant, Wyzant CEO and co-founder. “10 million hours is a tremendous milestone and indication of how much learning Wyzant has been fortunate to facilitate.”

Wyzant attributes the volume it’s achieved to its unique marketplace model and network of more than 65,000 tutors. Wyzant puts learners in control, enabling them to find to choose their best-fit tutor. Each tutor has an in-depth tutor profile, including qualifications, ratings and reviews from previous customers. Wyzant’s search algorithms allow students to find their perfect tutor based on this information as well as price, geography, and teaching style.

“From the start we’ve known that every learner has boundless potential, and when you get the right match between student and tutor, it can be unlocked in an almost magical way,” said Geant.

“Many times students need tutoring because they don’t have a connection with their teacher or learn in a different way,” said Melanie Compton, Wyzant manager of student support. “Unlike other services who believe any pairing will work, we’ve seen hundreds of thousands of student-tutor relationships and work hard to personalize the experience.”

Wyzant’s expansive network of tutors are available both in-person and online. With the increasing popularity of the gig economy, the depth and breadth of the tutor base continues to grow.

One such tutor, Cindy Matthews, recently shared her story with Wyzant. “I live in rural Kentucky, and Wyzant’s online tutoring has allowed me to reach beyond my small town. As a middle school math teacher with a family and a farm, I didn’t have much spare time. However, we had some family medical bills, and I originally signed up for the additional income.

“Tutoring on Wyzant has now become so much more,” Matthews said. “I enjoy seeing and working with students from around the country. It’s a way to reconnect with the high school math content that I love. Wyzant's lesson board and overall system eliminates many stressors that tend to arise when tutoring students. It’s fun, rewarding, and something I absolutely plan to continue.”
